Hi all,

I want to resist as Dark Urge and wanted to know which settings (race, class, background) do you recommend. Normally I would have taken someone with high CHA as this is the leader of the group (sorcerer would be my favorite) but now I wonder if WIS would be the key to resist. This would reduce class to monk, cleric, druid and ranger. What is your experience?

the best option is druid/ sorcerer or Druid / Bard because a single level of druid opens up diolog options @ the grove which help resist a lot

a certain spell makes your staff hit as a magic weapon and the most powerful combo is sorcerer with two staffs but Bard has almost as much power and better talk options

Hi Luke hehe

If I understood correctly, you recommend multiclass with Druid 1 and Sorcerer 11. How would you assign ability points as Druid works with WIS and Sorcerer with CHA?

12 wisdom is all you need for a single druid level and at least 14 charisma but i'd go the max 17 because its your prime spell (+ melee with staff and that spell) stat
i would also take str 8 and intel 10 start as a Druid on the ship then Sorcerer from the beach but the other stats are not as important

Except for one scene in shadowlands, I don't really recall having to actively resist the urges through wisdom rolls. I have played a druid and found that many of the dark urge dialogues could be avoided by using other dialogue options, or even speak with animals. Admittedly, I dislike the way du is written, so I skipped the origin content in my playthrough as much as I could. Perhaps if you choose the du-specific dialogue you would need to roll to resist more.

If you don't want to play a druid, you could try a sorcerer forest gnome, they get advantage on wisdom saving throws, and speak with animals as a spell.

I find half elf Paladin, and Paladin Sorcerer enjoyable. I might try Paladin Bard at some point. I like having solid melee and good AC, combined with some magic. Better than average charisma helps in a lot of ways. I don't play anything another member can cover, except you do want a fighter with more than two attacks per round in your party, so I usually have Lae'zel to mop up the extra goons. The backstory with the dead 3 plays out pretty well, and I like being an edgy antihero others aren't quite sure they should trust. Oath of Vengeance works, unless you want the oathbreaker knight hanging around your camp for half the game. Even durge resist gets their hands dirty every once in a while, so you get more freedom that way. Some people actually enjoy being an oathbreaker, but it can be a pill too.

Bard is pretty good. My first resist Durge was a sword bard.
My current resist Durge is an assassin/ gloom stalker.

You really don't need to waste a level of druid to resist in the grove, you can do that with any class.

Dear all, thanks a lot for your very valuable information! I am currently in my first run (normal run, no dark urge), and just received level 10. Therefore it is fun trying out the result of your suggestions.

@fylimar: Sword bard: In the standard setting to my info WIS would be around 10, please could you tell me how you solved your WIS rolls for resisting (could you avoid by dialog options? Did you level up WIS via ability improvement (either WIS points or other feats like "Resilience" or "Astral Knowledge" from Githyanki to improve WIS?)
