If I remember correctly, in BG1 my main problem with Sarevok was his Haste. I killed off the minions and kept on running away until he "deaccelerated".
With the horde party of seven taking him down was far from impossible. Replaying the game a few years ago and using a party of four (I found it much more playable), I still could do it, in spite of being an unsophisticated a primitive player.
