Just woke up on this weird tentacled skyship, trying to figure out what the heck is happening. Then fate sends me a message when I look at the bubbling vat of brine in the middle of the chamber...

Loool that reminds me of
willing the pod to open for shadowheart.
It's only a 2 check but my friend somehow rolled a 1 laugh Sometimes the RNG gods are just not in our favor.

Don't worry, I'm sure things will improve c: or at the very least, they will be amusing!

My favourite critical failure was with Avatar-Shadowheart. She has a DC of 0 to recognise the Nightfall Feast in the Grymforge and rolled a 1, resulting in Gale having to explain her religion to her.

You can make Laezel try to open it too. Despite her claim that there is no time, she will do it if you assume control and make her press the button. Still 1/400 chance of failure though.

Astarion, with gloves of thievery, (advantage, so 2 dice rolls) will still get critical failures trying to disarm a trap. Critical failures are a feature of the game.

look on the bright side... things have to get better right?

@Ussnorway Did you serve under Captain Mallory?

@Ido58 Yes, critical failures are definitely feature of the game (and D&D.) But it bodes ill for the future when you very first skill check of the game is a natural 1.

I started my first game thinking "Yes, I will allow this mindflayer to connect to my mind. Perhaps I can... negotiate?"

The solution is just one word: Halfling.

His chance is 1/400, so yes, if you steal a lot, you WILL see it every once in a while.

And a Halfling with the same gloves (or the corresponding robe, or the corresponding spell) has a 1/160,000 chance for a critical failure.

Finally any Rogue 11+ will never roll a critical failure on a skill roll; their minimum result is always at least 10.

I started an honour mode PT and get a whole lot of 1's and 2's. It stands out because Astarion has a +7 on disarming traps and picking locks and this is the very first game ever where I ran out of trap disarm toolkits and thieves tools because so many open/disarm actions to dificulty 10 failed.

The dice are really against me on my honour run trial. Not only did I have to buy a trap disarm kit and thieves tools for the very first time since early access, because rolls of 1 and 2 depleted my stock, but now on the opposite side : I had carefully planned the grove attack to knock Minthy out, placing my monk PC and fighter outside the gate to wack her, casting silence before the gate to keep her away from there. I get her down to a dozen HP and then 3 tieflings on the wall all shoot her and all of them hit. So she's dead. And no way to redo that. Suddenly I 'm not motivated anymore to continue HM. Going to Act 2 without Minthy just feels stale.

I honestly can't remember any time the game has done this to me. It's happened, I'm sure, but these moments never seem to stick with me for some reason.

I feel your pain, lol. Had the exact same thing happen! Nowadays, if I beat the goblins at the grove raid I try to ignore until the rest are dead, and it's still tough sometimes! Someone should make a Sapper Minthara mod so it'seasier, because those refugees seem to think sniping suicide bombers is a waste of their infinite arows!

I consistently run into another issue with her though: not being able talk to her after saving her in Moonrise, which prevents recruiting her. I haven't figured the cause or a direct solution, but fortunately I don't do the single save thing after getting my gold dice, so I can just reload and that works, for some reason.

When I had the "zombie" Minthara in MR towers prison, the only way out I found was to go back to a save before entering. (I'm not sure anymore, but there could have been an autosave when you went downstairs... This was on the default difficulty) Anyway, after going back to the prison, I immediately attacked the guards and then let Minthara come with me to escape. NOT let her wait until I come back. I 've done this several times since then, also on tactician, and never had the problem anymore using this sequence. I always had the impression that the "inertness" was due to Minthara being in some kind of dialogue mode that didn't end.

Next grove raid I may have to start by knocking out all the tieflings on the wall, and then get to the goblins.

I'll have to try having Gale giver her a smack with his puny arms next time this happens, the stuck in dialogue idea you're suggesting sounds very logical.
