Spinoff-thread from the thread about impressions about companions where we talk about them from the perspective of how we roleplayed our characters.

Spoilers obviously!

If I made a list for my first character it would look something like this:

Backstory: Sintra is a tiefling warlock/bard that is a streetchild who grew up among homeless kids. Her warlock bond is a contract with a fiend which helped her infiltrate the ranks of the social elite where she would charm and seduce wealthy and influential people to find dirt and secrets that her patron could exploit. So two important characteristics that I would keep in mind throughout my playthrough was that she was very protective of children and very guarded and protective against invasion of her privacy. Her initial approach was to use her skills at manipulation and deception to steer the companions towards her goals, but since she was quite a bit out of her comfort zone, she wasn't sure what those goals would be, other than getting rid of the tadpole.

Also note that this was my first blind playthrough so I had no knowledge about consequences beforehand.

Lae'zel - Despite her having her own agenda and loyalty to Githyanki, she was a fanatic, and fanatics are predictable and easy to manipulate so she was never worried about Lae'zel. Also someone who will rush head first into danger was good to have around, better her than me. After learning the truth about Vlaakith, she began to emphatise more with Lae'zel and supported her in chosing to rebel against the lich queen and they ended with a very strong bond where my headcanon is that Sintra promised her blade to assist Lae'zel's rebellion whenever she needed it.

Shadowheart - She was clearly harbouring secrets and knew more than she was letting on, so she didn't trust her at first. But then, she was kind of cute and this lead to that fling at the tiefling party which wasn't meant to lead to anything serious. And then Shadowheart began to open up and at the peak moment when facing the Nightsong, Sintra realized that she wanted Shadowheart to choose her over Shar so she pleaded to her to spare Nightsong (I picked the difficult persuasion check path and succeeded). This lead to the confession of deeper feelings and having a serious and deep relationship for the first time in her life, cue cute romance development that worked really well for the character arc I had in mind.

Astarion - A threat and a rival. Game knows game and Astarion was charming, manipulative and good at it and she did not trust him. The opportunity came when he got sloppy and revealed his vampiric nature and Sintra could convince the group that he had to go. If she hadn't let her suspicions lead her to that decision, she would probably have grown to like Astarion and he would have been part of the mean girls clique with her and Shadowheart.

Gale - Like Lae'zel, he was someone she felt she could predict and lead in whatever direction she decided to go. She found his chatting amusing and loved teasing him and he became the victim of many practical jokes and giggles at his expense from her and Shadowheart. But they both loved and protected him like a brother, he may be a dork, but he's our dork and only we get to make fun of him.

Wyll - The formal introduction to Wyll after the battle at the gates was him being encouraging to some refugee kids. So as per the first main rule of the character backstory, Wyll was instantly admired. She later learned about his family and saw some very strong potential in allying with a Ravengard, so she made sure to support and keep on Wyll's good side. Which became easier as she learned about his deal with Mizora and saw someone in a similar situation as herself. As she started leaning more towards doing the right thing, she often looked to Wyll for guidance and he is probably the character that influenced her the most.

Karlach - Karlach being from a similar background was someone Sintra could easily connect with. They talked in the same way and Karlach was someone she felt she could relax around and just be the bratty kid from the streets that she always were deep down. She got very emotionally invested in Karlach's condition and history and similarly to Lae'zel she was committed to joining Karlach and Wyll in Avernus when they needed her.

Jaheira - Trying to spike the wine to get her to reveal things about herself was not a good initial move, so Jaheira was on the naughty list at first. But their goals aligned and they needed the Harpers and Last Light as a base of operations for getting into Moonrise Towers. After Jaheira joined the party she found her resourceful and helpful with navigating Baldur's Gate and getting in with the Guild, and she could admit and respect that Jaheira acted the same way she would have if she had been in her shoes.

Halsin - She was initially confused why Halsin was tagging along and didn't offer up a lot of help and advice that she hadn't already figured out. Eventually he approached her about his goal to lift the Shadow Curse and she agreed. However she got sidetracked with helping Shadowheart in her quest and then there was a celestial that flew straight for Moonrise Towers and they hurried to join in the fight and eventually Ketheric was defeated while Halsin was still standing at the beach by Last Light waiting for them. So he decided to stay behind and deal with the Shadow Curse himself and never joined them in Baldur's Gate. Had Halsin been part of the group in act 3, Sintra would have held a very high admiration for him for his decision in the epilogue, since again, children were important to her.

Minsc - Since she had become trusting towards Jaheira she felt like she could trust Minsc as well. She liked his easy-going nature and like with Karlach felt safe in his presence that there was someone that like her didn't have a formal education or manners. At that time she had come to the decision that she was reluctantly going to go down the heroic path and she knew Minsc would be there for it until the end.

I've been lighter on RP stuff, but I have had two heavier RP characters.

Lanthian: My first druid character(drow), a non-lethal extremist that frequently put his allies in jeopardy by dealing less damage to avoid killing. He raided the goblin camp like an idiot, didn't kill a single soul, and despite initially perceiving Minthara as an enemy of nature he was eventually smitten with the evil paladin's smiting.

S'mil'r'thot: My first gith(ranger), he was hostile with everyone when given the chance(never via the attack option, ALWAYS through dialogue that started combat) and led companions to be their worst selves but was ultimately horrified by them all, and by his hand in things, and could no longer serve Vlaakith as an abomination...I wanted to do things a little differently, but unfortunately him, fthere's no real way to turn on evil companions after completing their stories until the very end of the game. I would've liked to have him kill his own party and have the game acknowledge it rather than "hey bonebag, hold onto my party".

I obviously don't know "proper" drow or gith naming conventions either, I'm fine with those gibberish names.

Ok, I try my best here:

I decided to write about my gnome artificer

[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]

It's pretty spoilery, if you haven't played the game at least to act 3 (no end spoilers)

Backstory: She comes across as pretty naive and doe eyed, but is actually very practical and streetwise. Her background is, that she was studiying artificing in Baldurs Gate. Her mentor was Zanner Toobin, the leader of the Gondians. She wasn't experienced enough to get caught in the crossfire between Gortash and the Gondians, but she saw, how friends, who worked for the steelwatch factory started to go missing (I know, that canonically we don't know much about the steelwatchers, but it never really plays a role). When her mentor went missing too, she started investigating with the help of some friends. She managed to get into the factory, found out a few things, she wasn't supposed to know and was caught by Gortash. He wanted her tadpoled and put to work, since he needed all the artificers, he could get his hands on, but she escaped. The trauma of the tadpole insertion left her with a short time memory loss of the last days before she woke up. But when talking to Karlach and others about Gortash and steelwatchers, it all came back.
She has an unlikely friendship with Abdirak, the Loviatar priest, who helped her, when her favourite aunt died, who inspired her to get into artificing (forest gnomes are more happy go lucky tree hugger normally). So in this headcanon, his reason for being in the Selunite temple is, that he is looking for his best friend (it's a bit of a big brother, annoying little sister relationship). For this playthrough I recruited him with the help of a mod.
Her motivation is to bring down Gortash and free her Gondian friends. And get rid of the tadpole in her head.
She is friendly, but sarcastic and doesn't take crap. WHen she likes someone, she is very loyal and will help however she can. She herself is not very religious, but she respects others. She makes often good hearted fun of Abdiraks believes, but never in a mean way, because she knows, it's important to him for example.

As for the companions (the playthrough is still ongoing):

I'm going through them in the order, I normally recruit them:

Lae'zel: pretty harsh, but honest, which is totally fine for Lavi, she can deal with harsh. SHe appreciated the giths honesty and also for some reason never even thought, the warrior would betray her - and she was right in trusting LAe'zel. They had a rocky start, but became friends after a while.

Shadowheart: She seems ok, she likes animals, which is always a plus, but her avoiding even the simpliest questions was a bit suspicious. Since Shadowheart seems to approve quite a lot of what Lavi did and said, they overccame their initial distrust. Being a Sharran is somewhat a letdown, but Sahdowheart is pretty untypical for a Sharran according to the people, who know more about that. So she is fine in Lavis book.

Astarion: Well, he is a mess. And not in a good way. Lavi made a big leap of faith and allowed him to drink, but will keep an eye on him. When he tried to hit on her after he said something mean about gnomes in general, she just scoffed and walked away. Does that really work on people? Maybe some stupid town girl, but Lavi was able to see right through his manipulation. She still feels a bit sorry for him, since his master sounds horrible, but she will not let her guard down with this one. She still will help him get rid of his master, if she can. But maybe she shouldn't have let him take the creepy book, now he talks to himself...

Gale: He is fun - a bit crazy and talks too much, but he lifted the mood of the group a lot. Him being a walking bomb is a bit worrying, but then, they have bigger problems. SHe will not let him blow himself up just because a stupid goddess said it. He is her friend and she will help him, Mystra be damned. It seems her respect for religions has their limits, killing freinds is one of them.

Wyll: He is nice to have around and Lavi loves his stories. Still he should have been more open about Mizora, now they have two devils on their trail, the creepy guy Raphael and the not less creepy gal Mizora. But at least Wyll knows, he made mistakes and owns up to them - good start. That he didn't tell her, he is Duke Ravenguards son until they found out, he got abducted, doesn't bother her at all. His family is his own normally and if the cult hadn't dragged his father into the plot, it wouldn't have been important. And he told her directly afterwards, so that was ok.

Karlach: She is her favourite. Good natured and as honest as Lae'zel - a ray of sunshine and great to have around. After Lavis heart got broken, because Nettie wasn't interested in her, Karlach kept her company during the tiefling party and shortly after, the two of them, fell in love. Number one priority is finding Dammon again to get that upgrade.

Minthara: Who? Oh that drow, we killed. Yeah, she was evil, no thanks. (Couldn't find a rpg reason for Lavi to try to keep her alive)

Jaheira: She is awesome. She reminds Lavi of her dead aunt and so is a welcome addition to the group.

Halsin: Well, he is friendly enough, but somehow, Lavi isn't convinced, the city will be good for him. Unlike Jaheira, he doesn't seem to do well outside of nature. Maybe she can convince him, to keep Scratch and Owly save.

Minsc: strange fellow and quite a bit confused, but he seems to mean well. Lavi just wonders, how he managed to survive so long with his childlike mentality. Maybe his hamster really keeps him save.

Feel like a bit of an outlier in that I don't have a very in-depth backstory for my PC's. My favorite has been RPing with my r!Durge Drow, Seid. The added Drow/Durge/intimidation dialogue is a lot of fun as someone who prefers to play evil (or at the very least unfriendly, with little care about any form of morality meter).

https://ibb.co/ZTvtKK9

(Can't imbed on mobile apologies)

Her POV is arrogant, mainly focused on gaining power and making a legacy for herself in and beyond the Gate. She's not opposed to making allies with "good" people, as long as she thinks they're a stronger and more useful ally. Hence why you'll never catch her doing most of the stereotypical "murder hobo" options the game offers, despite her being pretty evil. She has a reputation to uphold, after all! Can't be *that* flippant and impulsive (just don't ask what happened to the bard).

Will be a bit spoilery. But it was fun to see the companions through the lens of an admittedly Neutral Evil character.

Lae'zel: Judged hard by her appearance. Quickly gained respect for her more forceful and forward nature, and her proclivity towards addressing problems with force. Later became a bit disenchanted by her weakness beneath the surface on behalf of her religious beliefs. Still a strong and capable ally. Held a lot of favor with my Drow.

Shadowheart: Was far too cagey and secretive to start. Absolutely did not trust her, and kept her around very little. Found her moodiness irritating. Fully expected to cut and run with her, until more of her story was unveiled. Seid was able to take her personal quest down a path she felt would afford her *a lot* of potential allies (killed the cult leader without killing the cult). Became more friendly to Shadowheart after that, and felt she was worth the trouble to maintain as a close ally, should she decide to step up and take control of the cult herself.

Karlach: Began hopeful in finding a devil as an ally. Especially one as strong as Karlach. Soon found her morality meter to be deeply vexing. My Drow felt that she would likely end up as a probable enemy, so kept her close for the time being, but knew she would ultimately be honoring Karlach's own request on her choice of fate (she felt this a mercy, and doing her a favor). So felt no need to be rid of her immediately when she could still be used for decent muscle.

Astarion: Was amused by him from the start. The only companion that seemed as eager as her to try and utilize the tadpoles for power. Felt thoroughly supported by him in her more wicked inclinations and goals. Despite a rocky start for trust, she was a bit charmed by his later willingness to confess his own vulnerability to her, and subsequent offering of the ultimate allyship proposal, and agreed to be his consort. Deeply amused that his revealed plans on how to take over the Gate together matched hers entirely.

Gale: Felt he was too emotional. Did not see much potential in him as an ally until he revealed his goal of piecing together the crown. Of course, she noted what a powerful ally he would be if he succeeded. His proclivity toward a more positive moral alignment kept her from choosing him as a partner, but she was ever so supportive in helping him achieve his goal of mending the crown out of the innocent goodness of her heart! (\s)

Jaheira: Recognized as a powerful potential ally. Also someone she did not want as an enemy. Decided to toe the line of 'good' in front of her in order to gain her Harpers, and the Guild as allies to keep in her back pocket. Probably the most interesting ally to RP with from a Neutral Evil perspective. Seid knows she is too smart to be a lemming. And is aware she has to toe a line with her, to gain what she offers.

Minsc: Mildly entertaining. Seemed to entertain her partner, so he was kept in camp. But likely the companion she would most easily underestimate. She felt he was useful fodder.

Wyll: Likely the only companion who could've given my Drow her own redemption arc. She found him deeply charming. A useful ally in battle. With a high potential for power over the Gate, which she could easily use to her advantage. Personally felt he made her weak, because she felt he could likely sway her away from seeking power. So ended up keeping interactions with him minimal once reaching Act II.

Halsin: Chose to do things he would find favorable in order to gain him as an ally. Found him friendly. But not suitable for her inner circle, so mostly kept her distance out of disinterest (despite me as the player liking him quite a bit).

Minthara: Another female Drow in the area Seid hoped to gain power and influence over. Eliminated immediately (fight on sight).

For this type of RP I really wished Nere was on the list of companions :'( but it's such a niche want, I'm aware!

Cute idea!

Spoilers obviously

Backstory: I exclusively play durge but I made my character somewhat similar to them. Her name is Amaya, she is a tiefling and she is a cleric of Selune/lunar sorcerer (i use mods lol). She remembers bits and pieces of her past self, one of those little things were her knowing she was a devoted follower of Selune at some point in her life especially since she remembered the prayers and rituals. She struggles a lot with the murderous tendencies especially when she does not want to act on any of them, overall she just wants to be a good person. I have more background about her but i would end up writing an entire book about that lol.

Astarion: Love at first sight or I guess at first dagger at throat? She was instantly drawn to him and found it quite easy to talk to him, he was the first to notice some of her urges and how pained/sick she would get if she did not act on her urges while the others never really took it as seriously as he did. He was quite prickly to her in the beginning, especially in act 1 and he did hurt her feelings quite a bit but he was always funny to her, loved her chaoticness, and became quite a softie which made her fall for him even more. Astarion was really only soft to her which i think confused the others because he was grouchy to everyone else lol.

Shadowheart: She was also drawn to her but not like Astarion, she just meshed very well with Shadowheart despite their gods being at odds and became fast friends. Of course, she was upset when she found out Shadowheart was a Sharran and even more so when Shadowheart said they were 'naturally enemies' but honestly that didn't stop her from being besties with her lmfao. After the whole nightsong ordeal, they became closer as Amaya taught her about Selune. I do think Shar punished Shadowheart a lot whenever they spent time together gossiping, doing each others hair or just in general spending time with one another.

Gale: Thought he talked a lot but was a sweetheart, and after his whole orb revelation and especially after Mystra wanted him to blow up she wanted to go fight Mystra on sight lol, sometimes she did let the urge take over and this was one specific one she wanted to indulge in. Gale had an obvious crush on Amaya which did lead to a bit of uncomfiness especially between Gale and Astarion as Astarion DID not like Gale at all, not until act 3 lol. But other than that she was very close to him similar to how close she was with Shadowheart and he even helped her with her sorcery powers as she didn't know she had them until the middle of act 1.

Lae'zel: Didn't quite understand her at first but eventually grew to love her, Lae wasn't exactly all that inviting the first few days or even weeks but I do think Lae respected Amaya very quickly and became much more friendly after Amaya stuck up for her when Shadowheart was going to kill her in the night over the artifact. I do think after that Lae started to hang out with Shadowheart, Amaya and Karlach more and even let them braid/cut her hair.

Kalrach: Loved her instantly, she and Karlach sort of have similar views on things and just meshed very well overall. I think their shared chaoticness and both being tieflings made them vibe well lol. I do think Karlach was really the only other person besides Amaya that could be close to Astarion so she sort of was trying to get him to admit his feelings all the time even though he was trying his hardest to ignore them lol. I think Karlach played a big role in acting like a big sister to Amaya and even Astarion lol.

Wyll: Thought he was charming and very sweet. She really really despises Mizora similar to Mystra it was on SIGHT but knew she couldn't touch her or Wyll would suffer. Sometimes she and Wyll would get in small conflicts about things though, Amaya didn't really do things right away or the best way which I think would make Wyll a little annoyed. Amaya will always do the right thing but how she does them is sometimes concerning lol. But in all honesty, if she wasn't so in love with Astarion she probably would have ended up with Wyll (Wyll is truly a dream man lol).

Minthara: Similar to Lae'zel she didn't quite understand her but it wasn't until after killing Ketheric was when she did. They were both abused by Orin (Amaya obvi didn't know at the time) but after learning of Minthy's indoctrination she was going to murder Orin happily, technically she does as she had to duel her lol but I digress, I do think Minthara is quite similar to Astarion when it comes to understanding Amaya's urges and had expressed multiple times that she was concerned for her and has stuck up for her ESPECIALLY when the whole Bhaal's ex chosen reveal happened. I do think they became very close after killing Ketheric.

Halsin: Thought he was a good ally and friend never understood how he kept getting captured lol. I honestly don't think she was as close to him as she was with the others.

Jaheira: Amaya saw her as a mother figure, Jaheira found Amaya amusing and they would both banter off one another. I do think Jaheira also saw her like a daughter and treated her as such as well, especially when she learned that Amaya was a bhaalspawn.

Minsc and Boo: Loved boo I have a little headcanon that Boo starts to sleep with Amaya and Astarion and Misnc gets jealous lmfao. She also loved Minsc of course and I have another headcanon that after the game events he goes around calling himself her uncle lol.

🥹 I really do like the idea of a resist Durge on the good alignment scale. It adds a poetic level of angst to the playthrough.

But yes 100% to Wyll actually being a dream man. I wish he got more content! He is the *exact* type of character I usually love in RPGs. If I could tear myself away from evil RP in BG, he would be my choice. (And that's not to say you cant RP with a romanced Astarion as a good character! Just that my roleplay perspective would probably draw me to Wyll). Not sure if that's too much of a digression for this thread but I just had to note I think it's cool that two different alignments still came out with sort of the same feelings/read on Wyll. He's probably the only man who could actually fix my evil Durge lol.

Reading these expositions about people’s evil dark urge, I will present you with the only character I have done an evil durge playthrough with.

I give you Gnomelander:

[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]

Spoilers and content warning for references to murder and incest below.

Gnomelander is a gnome (obviously) sorcerer who was raised in the Bhaalist cult and ever since he was a child he was subjected to experiments and torture to produce the most brutal and sociopathic murderer possible. They went a bit overboard and he became a bit too unhinged, even for a Bhaalist cult, to the point where they had to capture him, lock him up and use magic and drugs to subdue his mind and turn him into a harmless vegetable. As a result of the abduction to the Nauthiloid and the insertion of the mindflayer parasite he begins to slowly regain his mind and memories and now there is a weapon of mass murder on the loose, and he has a bone to pick with some people.
Gnomelander’s personality is murder and narcissism. His go-to response to most situations is Eldritch Blast. If he is annoyed - Eldritch Blast, if he is bored - Eldritch Blast, if he is excited - Eldritch Blast.

Here are Gnomelander’s unhinged and unfiltered views of the companions.
DISCLAIMER, Gnomelander is a horrible and despicable person and his opinions should generally not be adhered to, by anyone. They do not reflect the opinions of his player and should not be inferred as factual or serious opinions about the companions.

Lae’zel - Are all Githyanki this daft or did I just happen to run into one that was hatched from an egg that was dropped a few too many times? At least she had the decency and good taste to have sex with me. But, what just happened? Vlaakith is a fraud that has been lying to her her entire life. Oh, that’s just priceless! You must be furious, why don’t you work some of that anger off by maiming some people for me.

Shadowheart - By the shiny balls of Carl Glittergold, just shut up about Shar already! I know this type, little princess with abandonment issues looking for attention. All she wants deep down is for mommy and daddy to praise the horribly ugly artwork she made in nursery school. Just toss her a bone every now and then, pretending that you actually give a shit and she will follow you around like a lost puppy. I can see why she and Scratch get along so well.

Astarion - Oh, thank you Cazador for doing the legwork and breaking this one for me. A perfectly miserable and empty husk of a soul delivered right at my feet just when I needed it. All too eager to indulge in every little temptation to bloodlust and cruelty that I dangle in front of him. Making him do whatever I want is as easy as making a drunk halfling dance, which I have done many times, because I know charm spells. And the fool thinks I am actually going to help him ascend.

Wyll - Who? Oh that vigilante who decided to jump off the wall that provided him with a tactical advantage and join the fight against the goblins on the ground instead? Only to instantly get shot in the face with an arrow (worth noting that Wyll can actually permanently die in that fight if a goblin gets a lucky crit on him, and no re-loading in honor mode so). You are saying that was the son of Ravengard, I hope Volo was taking notes on that absolutely pathetic way to go.

Karlach - What now? You are saying she wasn’t actually a devil and those charming people were not actual paladins of Tyr. Oh well, I still got a nice sword out of it.

Minthara - Finally someone with a little ambition and vision! You also sound like my mother, which, frankly, is making me kind of turned on. This Absolute cult sounds like a nice gig, but your bosses are kind of a bunch of rotten dicks. What do you say we take control of this elderbrain thing and run the show instead?

Halsin - Can everyone please stop pestering me about saving this damsel in distress? Sorry, but Minthara gave me an offer that just sounded so much more amusing. The smelly old bear can stay in his cage and rot. Besides, bear fur gives me rashes.

Jaheira - Wait, this lady who looks like a retired art teacher is Jaheira? The Jaheira who defeated Sarevok and Jon Irenicus? Sheesh, go knit me a sweater grandma!

Minsc - Oh, he comes already delivered with tadpole insertion. How convenient, let's just leave that in there. And Boo was absolutely delicious, though there wasn't that much meat on him.

This sent me. LOL. Out of all the evil playthroughs it never even occurred to me to eat the little guy. I need to step up my game. Kudos there.

Out of all of them, I feel Karlach will have the hardest time with an evil PC. She doesn't really have any grey to latch onto. I get the irony of a hell spawn having a high moral compass, but my Drow was so disappointed she found nothing to exploit!

My sword bard Vayu Stormgust, air genasi. I finished my first HM with him.

Background: He came from Icewind Dale, where he studied music, mythology and swordfighting. He was engaged with a half elf ranger, but he died helping travellers in a forrest. After that, Vayu decided to leave Icewind Dale and moved to Waterdeep. His music became very popular and he found friends in the new city. He stayed in a room at the Yawning Portal and often played there too. He was snatched by the Nautiloid one night in Waterdeep after he was on his way to his room after a concert in another part of town.
(He was a bit inspired by EInar Selvig and his music).
Vayu is pretty sarcastic and sometimes acts impulsive, but is generally good natured.

His views of the companions

Lae'zel: That is one tough lady, grumpy as hell, but pretty useful in a fight. Sometimes unintentionally hilarious. Glad, she saw sense and turned away from that creep of a goddess.

Shadowheart: Of all the priests it has to be a Sharran. Those folks are bad news. But Shadow is ok. But not gonna lie, I was relieved, when she turned away from Shar for Selune. She said, it was my influence, must be pretty desperate to listen to someone like me, but oh well. What is it with my traveling companions and toxic godesses?

Astarion: Yeah, he is an obnoxious prick. Tried to seduce me to manipulate me. Not going to happen sweetheart. He had it rough though, so I didn't send him away when he tried to bite me. He whined a lot, it was annoying. He wasn't happy, that I didn't let him ascend, threw a temper tantrum, killed the 7000 spawn anyway and run away. So much for being thankful. His master was dead, I promised Gandrel to bring his children back, what else was I supposed to do. I guess it was fo the betetr, we didn't get along. I still hope, he is well.

Gale: Well... I didn't expect to fall in love again after Khiran, but then this stupid little wizard just fell out of a portal. I don't know why, but I fell for him hard very quickly. And then he showed me the Weave and ... long story short, we are married and living in his tower in Waterdeep now. Luckily Tara likes me. It's funny, he said, he frequented the Yawning Portal a few times, but that must have been before my time there. And he had even more goddesses problems. Luckily Mystra wasn't looking for revenge after we decided to leave the crown where it was.

Wyll: He is a bro, totally great guy and I really felt honoured, he asked me for advice about his pact. And glad, he got to reconnect with his dad. He likes to boast quite a bit, but he can take criticism too, so I'm ok with his tales. After fighting alongside him, I believe that most of them are actually true. I will write him a song, he deserves it. I make a point to stay in contact with him and Karlach.

Karlach: Another tough lady. I'm amazed how good natured she is after ten years of blood war. She might not have a heart anymore, but she is the heart of the group. I'm glad, she decided to go to Avernus and I'm also glad, she has Wyll at her side. Those two have become very close friends.

Minthara: Wow that woman is evil, but totally hilarious. She would kill you in a heartbeat, but is always the first in cracking a funny one liner. I know that should we ever meet again, we probably will be enemies, but she is hounrable and kept her word in our alliance. She wasn't happy I didn't take the power, but I guess, deep down, she knew, I would not want that. I like my husband, my freinds and my music and don't need this destructive power in my life. I don't know where she went after Withers party, I guess, she will be trying to get revenge back Menzoberan. And you know what ? I think, she will succeed.

Halsin: The guy is strange, sorry to say it. It's admirable that he wants to help the orphaned kids and help in the SHadowcursed lands, but he sometimes seems pretty immature for such an old being. I hope his new settlement will fair better than him leading the grove.

Jaheira: I mean - she is a hero, I sang the songs, that were made about her, a few times. It was intimidating meeting her at first, but she has a great sense of humour and is a good drinking buddy. Her family is awesome. I think, we have not heard the last of our esteemed High Harper or her kids.

Minsc: What has he smoked? And where can I get that?

So, Vayu just has to be good friends with Boo, got it. He had more complicated friends:), so that is doable.

I'm a sucker for these threads, even though I still only have one complete playthrough.

Backstory: Myrna Brandybuck, halfling bard. She grew up in a halfling village in the east of Amn, in a musical family and always loved hearing stories of the world and great adventures. When she came of age she moved to Baldur's Gate to attend bard college, but despite performing in taverns all the time, she was too socially awkward to ask to join all those adventuring parties that would form in front of her. It took the tadpoling to throw her out of her comfort zone and onto the road, where she slowly opened up to people. She's very kind - especially to other short folk, who she thinks have to stick together - and somewhat impulsive.

Spoilers up to the epilogue.

In roughly the order I met them, if I recall correctly

Shadowheart was the first person Myrna really got talking to. When she said she wasn't bothered about Shar and just wanted to get to know her (partly because I as a player misremembered who Shar is), Shadowheart soon started to open up and they were firm friends by the time they held a party together. But she was really put off when Shadowheart turned all zealoty in the Shadowlands. But Myrna persuaded her to spare the Nightsong, and Shadowheart found her true self. The two became much closer friends as Myrna helped Shadowheart work through things.

Astarion: Myrna never liked him. Every time she tried to be kind to someone, the insults came flowing from Astarion. She promised a druid that she would not allow herself to become a mindflayer, and he laughed at her. She snapped and sent him back to camp immediately. That night she woke to find him, fangs bared, over her face. "Shit..." was his last word before she leapt up, heart pounding and thrust a stake into his gut. He looked at her, and the stake, and fled.

Gale: He was fun, and they got along quite well. She couldn't resist peeking into his mind to see what was going on with the magic inside him, but was too scared to mention what she'd seen. They spent the night together after the tieflings' party, sharing their different connections to the weave. But when Myrna sensed the potential romantic connection she froze and dropped it, not ready for anything like that. When Gale told her about his explodiness, she took the only sensible reaction and asked him to leave. Out of character and with hindsight, I think this is a shame. I later decided that Myrna is slightly autistic, and I've heard people suggest that Gale is neurodiverse. Maybe they'd have been a good couple. But decisions matter in this game.

Lae'zel was far too intense at first. At the tiefling party, Lae'zel seemed angry with Myrna, almost as if she was about to leave. Not wanting to lose someone else after all the others, Myrna was careful what she said to Lae'zel. Then, without warning, Lae'zel asked to have sex, right in front of everyone else. Things were awkward for a while. She let Lae'zel lead the party through the githyanki creche, only getting more shocked as Lae'zel spoke openly about how brutal her people are. But things started to change when Myrna found evidence of Vlaakith's lies and proved it. The two never made friends, but there was certainly mutual respect.

Wyll (I'm using artistic license to combine two versions of this): Myrna didn't know what to make of him at first. But once things calmed down, it became clear that their hearts were in the same place. He was the anti-Astarion: every time Myrna helped someone, Wyll would approve. He was suave and charming, and, as her personality began to open out to the world, she started to think about him more. Then, one evening in an old Sharran temple, he asked her to dance. Myrna loves dancing, and joined in straight away. She knew what was coming, but... when he looked into her eyes, her nerves failed her and she looked away. But eventually they found themselves together again, and this time the kiss happened.

Minthara: Goblin leader go BOOM

Karlach said something about "robbing her way to Baldur's Gate". This didn't sound like Myrna's sort of thing, so they went their separate ways. Out of character, probably the wrong decision.

Halsin: Out of character, I knew Halsin's reputation for being... open. And turning into a bear. He's already a big guy, so when he looked at Myrna's face while enthusing about "the beauty of nature" I couldn't help interpret a look of terror in her eyes. She was sad to see him disappointed when she didn't lift the shadow curse, but to be honest, a druid is probably better placed to solve it than a bard, and she had more important things to deal with.

Jaheira: It took a while for Myrna to get chatting to her as an equal, but she has some great stories from the past and a good sense of humour. They ended up as good friends, with a bit of cheekiness both ways. Then, Myrna asked if she could join the Harpers. She might be "someone who should know better", but Myrna wanted the chance to get back to performing while also being ready to, one day, go out and save the world again. Or at least, help a few needy people.

Minsc: Yeah, he's a bit mad. But also has stories to tell. Interesting, but I don't think they ever bonded much.
