Spinoff-thread from the thread about impressions about companions where we talk about them from the perspective of how we roleplayed our characters.

Spoilers obviously!

If I made a list for my first character it would look something like this:

Backstory: Sintra is a tiefling warlock/bard that is a streetchild who grew up among homeless kids. Her warlock bond is a contract with a fiend which helped her infiltrate the ranks of the social elite where she would charm and seduce wealthy and influential people to find dirt and secrets that her patron could exploit. So two important characteristics that I would keep in mind throughout my playthrough was that she was very protective of children and very guarded and protective against invasion of her privacy. Her initial approach was to use her skills at manipulation and deception to steer the companions towards her goals, but since she was quite a bit out of her comfort zone, she wasn't sure what those goals would be, other than getting rid of the tadpole.

Also note that this was my first blind playthrough so I had no knowledge about consequences beforehand.

Lae'zel - Despite her having her own agenda and loyalty to Githyanki, she was a fanatic, and fanatics are predictable and easy to manipulate so she was never worried about Lae'zel. Also someone who will rush head first into danger was good to have around, better her than me. After learning the truth about Vlaakith, she began to emphatise more with Lae'zel and supported her in chosing to rebel against the lich queen and they ended with a very strong bond where my headcanon is that Sintra promised her blade to assist Lae'zel's rebellion whenever she needed it.

Shadowheart - She was clearly harbouring secrets and knew more than she was letting on, so she didn't trust her at first. But then, she was kind of cute and this lead to that fling at the tiefling party which wasn't meant to lead to anything serious. And then Shadowheart began to open up and at the peak moment when facing the Nightsong, Sintra realized that she wanted Shadowheart to choose her over Shar so she pleaded to her to spare Nightsong (I picked the difficult persuasion check path and succeeded). This lead to the confession of deeper feelings and having a serious and deep relationship for the first time in her life, cue cute romance development that worked really well for the character arc I had in mind.

Astarion - A threat and a rival. Game knows game and Astarion was charming, manipulative and good at it and she did not trust him. The opportunity came when he got sloppy and revealed his vampiric nature and Sintra could convince the group that he had to go. If she hadn't let her suspicions lead her to that decision, she would probably have grown to like Astarion and he would have been part of the mean girls clique with her and Shadowheart.

Gale - Like Lae'zel, he was someone she felt she could predict and lead in whatever direction she decided to go. She found his chatting amusing and loved teasing him and he became the victim of many practical jokes and giggles at his expense from her and Shadowheart. But they both loved and protected him like a brother, he may be a dork, but he's our dork and only we get to make fun of him.

Wyll - The formal introduction to Wyll after the battle at the gates was him being encouraging to some refugee kids. So as per the first main rule of the character backstory, Wyll was instantly admired. She later learned about his family and saw some very strong potential in allying with a Ravengard, so she made sure to support and keep on Wyll's good side. Which became easier as she learned about his deal with Mizora and saw someone in a similar situation as herself. As she started leaning more towards doing the right thing, she often looked to Wyll for guidance and he is probably the character that influenced her the most.

Karlach - Karlach being from a similar background was someone Sintra could easily connect with. They talked in the same way and Karlach was someone she felt she could relax around and just be the bratty kid from the streets that she always were deep down. She got very emotionally invested in Karlach's condition and history and similarly to Lae'zel she was committed to joining Karlach and Wyll in Avernus when they needed her.

Jaheira - Trying to spike the wine to get her to reveal things about herself was not a good initial move, so Jaheira was on the naughty list at first. But their goals aligned and they needed the Harpers and Last Light as a base of operations for getting into Moonrise Towers. After Jaheira joined the party she found her resourceful and helpful with navigating Baldur's Gate and getting in with the Guild, and she could admit and respect that Jaheira acted the same way she would have if she had been in her shoes.

Halsin - She was initially confused why Halsin was tagging along and didn't offer up a lot of help and advice that she hadn't already figured out. Eventually he approached her about his goal to lift the Shadow Curse and she agreed. However she got sidetracked with helping Shadowheart in her quest and then there was a celestial that flew straight for Moonrise Towers and they hurried to join in the fight and eventually Ketheric was defeated while Halsin was still standing at the beach by Last Light waiting for them. So he decided to stay behind and deal with the Shadow Curse himself and never joined them in Baldur's Gate. Had Halsin been part of the group in act 3, Sintra would have held a very high admiration for him for his decision in the epilogue, since again, children were important to her.

Minsc - Since she had become trusting towards Jaheira she felt like she could trust Minsc as well. She liked his easy-going nature and like with Karlach felt safe in his presence that there was someone that like her didn't have a formal education or manners. At that time she had come to the decision that she was reluctantly going to go down the heroic path and she knew Minsc would be there for it until the end.
