I'm at a loss to understand, first of all, how a human-sized statue like the idol of sylvanus can only weigh 0.4 lbs. Second, no matter what it weighs (which, in reality, would be more like 200-500 lbs assuming it's made of wood), how does a pint-sized tiefling manage to "steal" a 5-tall statue right in the middle of a circle of druids that are chanting at it? I could really use her in my party!

1) Magic is magic.

2) She probably stole it before they started the ritual.

It took me a while to realise that the thread title wasn't a Dickensian reference.

Same, I was confused, what Dickens character has to do with Arabella smile

But her magic came from the idol in combination with the Shadowlands. Withers explains this, when you ask him about Arabella.

You'd have to think that the idol wanted to be stolen by Arabella for a greater future plan.

I also got the impression that the idol "wanted" to be stolen by Arabella, maybe it also wasn't too fond of the Rite of Thorns - though I don't know if artefacts can be this sentient.

Given how gods tend to act in a more quiet way,and the entire situation happening in the background,it's incredibly likely Papa Sil had a hand in it and tried to use it as a "maybe they'll get it" moment before Khaga happened.

There's plenty of lore to support the idea that objects and artefacts can be inhabited by sentient beings in Forgotten Realms.

LOL! Sorry. I should have referred to a less literary magician.

The mechanics of it never crossed my mind.

I like the implications for a future sequel or spinoff, though. I'd love it BG4 involved shadow druid Arabella teaming up with the criminal kingpin Mol as they deal with.. let's say infernal peacock smuggling, as a placeholder for now.

But no, really, I think it'd be very cool to have grown up Arabella and Mol as party members in a future game. Main characters may even be better.
