If you destroy the absolute and decide to stay with The Emperor as a new mind flayer you will only get a letter in your last camp. It doesn’t matter what you do, if you romance him, if you rebuild the knights of the shield (this letter doesn’t even hints you about the relationship) or to go beyond and try to conquer Faerûn with him. And I quote his reaction

All of that for you to get this in his letter:

EXCUSE ME??? MY FRIEND????? All of these to get ONE LETTER in the happy ending and and end up on the books as "They were just roommates”. Please for the Gods sake, fix this, at least change it to “my love” or something like. We want marriage
