Any background processes getting in the way, maybe? Could be a resources clash. I had some crashes because one program sometimes re-initialised all external drives after updating, including the one I used for BG3. Took me some time to find out.
not sure what background processes could be clashing, but I have tried it before with all programs closed. Also should note, no external drives, just the one SSD I mentioned.
