As the Patch 8 stress test is ongoing, I assume some people are already trying out certain mods with it, too. However, I assume some mods are more likely to break than others.
In particular, the Unlocked Level Curve Mod that adds levels 13 - 20 is probably not going to work with the new subclasses for each class, as the modder would first have to specify how these classes continue to develop from levels 13 - 20.

That’s fine by me in general, of course — I simply won’t select the new subclasses on any run featuring the Unlocked Level Curve Mod, until the subclasses have been added to it. Nevertheless, I am concerned what Patch 8 will do to my currently ongoing runs that use this mod. After all, there is a chance Patch 8 might break this mod altogether — even if the player doesn’t pick any of the new subclasses.

If so, can I decide to upgrade my version of the game from Patch 7 to 8 later, even after Patch 8 has been released? Or can I downgrade back to Patch 7 if I find out Pack 8 breaks these runs currently in progress?

Or will the game update itself to Patch 8 automatically once it’s out, thereby possibly making existing Patch 7 runs unusable?

Something like this kind of happened to me back with Divinity 2: Developer’s Cut, when I installed it on Steam — my previous saves from Divinity 2: Ego Draconis / Flames of Vengeance were incompatible with Developer’s Cut, and could therefore no longer be loaded. That wasn’t a problem, since those runs were already completed by then. But Baldur’s Gate III is a much longer game than Divinity 2: Developer’s Cut. wink

As with any patch- some mods will break, and some will be fine- but you are able to choose to remain on whatever
patch you are currently working with and don't need to update. Steam has an option to turn off auto-updates, and
so do the consoles, so they will not update until you manually do it yourself.

You won't be able to use any of the mods that are updated for patch 8, but you can continue your playthrough until
you are ready!

Larian released patch 8 to PlayStation by mistake without noticing.

Every single patch released so far has been a total busted mess, fun ideas but shockingly bad code

Why would you assume any mod should work between patches

Thanks, that’s reassuring to hear. smile I’ll have to look for that setting before it’s “too late” and Steam has already auto-updated… ^^

That said, I’ll probably finish my current second main playthrough before Patch 8 is released for PC. I’m more concerned about the slower runs, such as my co-op playthrough, since we don’t find the time that often — but we are running the adjustable Party limit and Faerûn colours mods, among others.

Plus, there are the runs I started a while ago, just to try out a character build, so that I can continue them later whenever I please. Some of these are just normal un-modded Tactician runs, but some do run various mods.

This is gonna be a MASSIVE issue if it does, because mod updates require approval as well alongside regular mods.

This means it's incredibly likely that not a singular mod,or at least a paltry amount, will even be usable the moment the patch is fully live.It could genuinely take MONTHS before all of our current mods are usable on console.

On PC we could also get in trouble because the Improved IO mod is used by uncountable other mods, and the modder has anounced he's stopped modding, so unless someone else takes this over, there will be no update to patch 8 in case of problems.
So that could be a major crashdown of a huge amount of mods.

Does this have Larian worried ? Will someone stress-test this mod ?

I know of some people using massive amounts of mods that need Improved, including races, custom companions and others, so I think, that will be fine. Ther might still be mods, that might break though, so I would keep an eye on the different modding communities. The one on Reddit is pretty quick with announcements

I have question, is there anyway to rollback to patch 7 after downloading patch 8, I can't even play my save due crucial mods. I've tried deleting and reinstalling, but it just automatically downloads patch. Or a I just stuck?

For patch 7, there was a fork that remained on patch 6, so you could switch back and reinstall the old version. I guess they can do the same thing now.

Patch 8 is not out yet, so you are potentially in the Beta Testing for p8 and if you are on PC- that is a completely separate installation, which you don't need to download, or use.

For xbox- you will need to exit the Stress Test version via the Xbox Insider Hub. This will prompt an update and will revert your game to the previous version. Please bear in mind that any saves made
within the stress test will not be compatible with the Patch 7 version once you revert back.

For PS- there is no revert option at present.
