I don't think there are really any spoilers here, but if you think so, flag it and I'll edit it.

I'm wondering why Marcus has an extra 40 temporary hp? (On balanced mode). Nothing in his description in-game, nothing in the wiki, or on any other site I've found lists any ability, condition, or gear that would give him an extra 40hp. Whatever it is, where can I get it? LOL.

It's one of the Gifts from the Absolute. You know, like his wings.

That's the whole schtick of the Absoulte, it lures people in with promise of power and grants people certain abilities.

Marcus gets some Temp HP and wings.

The illithid tadpole ability "shield of thralls" gives you 10 temp HP. Marcus possibly has an improved versions.
