Very interesting discussion! It's the one Durge ending I have not seen yet as I wanted to see the evil-evil ending first.
I wanted to join in and answer some Durge question, I think I know the answer to.
But where did PC Durge come from ? Did I miss some kind of hint in the game to explain how this new spawn came to be after the entire line died out ?
If I remember correctly it is your butler Sceleritas Fell who tells you that you where crafted from Bhaals own blood and not born at all. Your PC is a direct offspring by some sort of blood cloning.
So I kind of support your theory that PC becomes a monster. The only way to rid yourself of Bhaal is to be born again with new blood through Withers.
As for why I think Durge could become a monster, this idea probably came just from viewing the ending scene. The PC that you've grown to like (even as Durge) during all these hours of play, now has become a terrible being. Eyes wide open, never blinking, mouth chattering, and head jerking uncontrallably. You should see this, if you haven't yet. But even if you'd watch it in a clip from someone else, it would not have the same effect as it would not be YOUR personal PC that you see transformed like that.
I have not seen this. I am curious to see this now. And I agree with you that seeing your PC reaction/transformation in person is quite different than watching someone elses PC doing the same.
The evil-evil ending is quite good if you like monster endings. I guess it's a choice between happy monster or sad monster ending if you keep your fathers blood.
