I dont usualy do this, since there is tons of them and its not really in power of anyone to see them all, and since so many of them is awesome it feels wrong to elevate one while forgetting others ... but this one felt special.

And i just cant help but to wish for it to be known:

I was going to post this too in the characters and stories section, since I feel, it fits better there. Embracing Dark Urge is by far the most bleak ending, given that it means, your character had the chance to live a free life and threw it t away for the most cruel god out there.
This is one of the few videos that acknowledge, that Bhaalspawn can't form attachments at all, because they are forced to kill whoever the grow attached too. Unlike other evil gods, Bhaal doesn't give you room for anything else than murder in his name. I can't think of anything worse.
It also makes clear, that Durge was always going to betray and kill Gortash ( sorry Durgtashs - and the youtuber is a Durgtash too, but very realistic about how that will end) with this inner monologue when they meet again.
Embrace Durge is such a sad ending. Only failed Durge might be worse.

Exit: I really recommend watching this video, one of the best character and lore deep dives out there.

I'm surprised it took so long for a video like this to exist, explaining the Dark Urge and its circumstances.

Before Patch 7, I almost always played embrace Dark Urge because I greatly value the challenge of taking the evil path. Of course, embrace Dark Urge is a sad ending, considering the opportunity of his existence and his personality. But a sad ending doesn't mean it isn't a rewarding experience for the player. I greatly value being able to rethink the decisions my Dark Urge makes in each playthrough. Why does my Dark Urge make this decision, and what his moral perspective is, which can fluctuate depending on his own backstory and playstyle. One such point is "Who He Was" and Madeleine. Does he do evil to do good from his own moral perspective? Is he simply acting evil?

For me, questioning my decisions as a tragic character is a huge part of my enjoyment of the game. Personally, the embrace Dark Urge evil endings that arrived with Patch 7 didn't appeal to me, but that doesn't stop me from continuing to be "evil."

It's worth mentioning that I personally don't apply any moral lessons from the game to real life, or vice versa, to avoid any misunderstandings. It's a game meant to entertain me and that's exactly what it does.

Oh, I quite agree with you. Durge in both resisting and embracing version is a very well done character concept. I liked, how the youtuber felt bad for her Durge and pushing the companions to their worst ending. It shows, how alive they feel.
I saw some video essays about Durge and every companion out there, but this is the most deep and well thought through honestly. The fact, that she sometimes was close to crying is so relatable, even more so, if you know what will happen.

It's unfortunate she doesn't consider the case where embracing durge ultimately manages to struggle back and becomes possessed by Bhaal , a puppet without any will left of its own. Personally I find this to be the ending that affected me most strongly.

Something that broke the bad ending for me was : Why have Gale kill himself when you could send him to Waterdeep and have him detonate the orb in the city. Boom, so many dead at once. THAT would make father proud.

When playing the embrace Durge, you are actually playing Bhaal. You are the manipulator, you chose the path Durge took, you are the Father.

This is a valid interpetation I feel, I like it.

The blood cloning Sceleritas mentions would support it.
And if it is true, then it would mean even Bhaal has some humanity or had when they where human. As you have the option to resist and be kind to your fellows.

Personally I feel embrace Durge is a happy ending. Not perhaps for the world, but for my PC.

She never smiled so much in the whole game as she did in that ending cutscene. It's really well done. Good job Larian!
