Could be that maybe something got corrupted in the process and it got rectified through checking of game file's integrity through steam, did you by happen do this?
Sometimes that can explain a redownload of necessary files in the effort of getting repaired and all I can presume not knowing what platform you play the game from.
Just one tip, if the game persistently crashes on a certain specific moment of the game, it can sometimes (not always) indicate of game file/cache corruption or somethin´g with your system setup causing it, but I'd wager a wild guess you sent a bug report directly to Larian about this so it can be investigated further.
