Unfortunately nothing on what new games will come up.

Still a nice talk.

I'm really surprised there is no discussion here in this forum about Larian's next game, and especially given they have two new games in development. What's up with that, Larian fans?! smile

Its hard to discuss when the developers are so tight lipped.

While its a mystery what the game(s) would be I suspect some things are comfortably expected.

- You'll start alone on a boat/ship after being abducted/incarcerated.

- Your first quest will be to escape said ship even though you are infected/collared/possessed/charmed/or some other type of physical/mental restriction

- during your escape you will meet some/all of your future potential companions

- Said ship will be sunk/crashed/or otherwise destroyed during your escape and some mysterious higher/lower power will save you from certain death

- after this you will wake up alone on a beach near a somewhat remote but inhabited location whereupon you will once again encounter your future potential companions one by one as you journey

- soon after reaching the remote location which is occupied/under threat of some nefarious regime/army/cult you will find yourself forced to take sides

- eventually the mysterious power who saved you will reveal that this is all part of a vast struggle involving the gods themselves (hint the gods are either outright evil at worst or capricious and unfeeling/unsympathetic/selfish/corrupt at best) and YOU are the KEY to saving EVERYTHING.

* Also there will be 3 acts and lots of exploding barrels

I didnt made such a thread because I dont like talking with myself, and the demand for such a thread seemed really low.

We know that one of the games will be science fiction, thus I expect different planets, and more than just three, and I dont really expect exploding barrels.

And we know it wont be D&D again. Possibly Larian will one day make another D&D game, but not in the forseeable future.

Haha smile

And yes, I was talking about us speculating, of course, because there is very little information coming from Larian. But on a topic like this, and on this forum, speculation is both legitimate and fun!

Yeah I also feel one of the games will be sci-fi. But I am curious about whether they will go with fantasy for the other game. On the one hand, I could see them saying they have their Divinity franchise for fantasy, and their BG3 game was also fantasy, so let's go somewhere else. But on the other hand, if the game is not a Divinity-based game, then I would wonder if they really want to deviate from fantasy as that is their bread and butter.

But also, are they creating new IPs, or are they using licensed existing IPs?

Lot's of interesting angles to ponder. For me, as I have repeatedly said here as a critic of BG3, if only Larian had named their BG3 game something else and not "Baldur's Gate," then I could've enjoyed it for what it was rather than be unhappy about what I wanted it to be. And I also am on the record as saying I really can't stand their Divinity setting. But I also believe Larian has some tremendous strengths when it comes to game design. So I am hoping for a fantasy-setting game that is neither D&D (we already know this) nor Divinity-based (fingers crossed).

I would love to see a steampunk theme. I also found that ACT II of BG3 had a real Victorian Horror vibe in the House of Healing that might make for an interesting idea. However good old fashioned fantasy is always fun.

Ribbing aside in my first post I do mostly enjoy Larian games and they do have a lot of strengths. I share your fingers crossed regarding Divinity-based and I seem to recall reading somewhere that the next release will not be DOS3. I could be misremembering that however.

I'm pretty sure they overall prefer making own IPs. After all most of their games are own IPs.

Swen Vincke talks about how he has to keep his programmers happy at Larian, too. And who wouldnt enjoy making their own games from scratch, instead of being bound and dictated by somebody else what can and cant be done ?

I wonder if there was a "Tarquin like" easter egg in BGE that would give us a clue?
