Yes, I had asked them to bust through, and they happily did.
I reloaded and tried again. I was working under the theory maybe I accidentally charmed one of them during the fight, in that buggy way where it pops up asking if you want to react to an attack, mis-applied to people on your side. And maybe later the charm ran out, pissing them off? I don't know if that happened, and I don't know if that happens anymore, but I wanted to re-run the fight being extra careful which attacks I was reacting to.
On this replay, both meese died. Oh well. Anyway, I'm solo castering it, and didn't wanna budget a strength elixer to bust through on my own, or stand there all day, so tried building a little tower and was able to leap over. =D
