Another playthrough and Wyll's on the romance checklist this time. Thing is, triggering his romance is harder than I remember. When I started the game (At launch) Wyll's romace was easy to trigger even if I ignored him. The dance scene always triggered in act 2.

However it does not seem to trigger at all now. After some investigation people are saying Larian changed the requirements to make it so you have to flirt with him during the Tiefling party. Thing is this playthrough I didn't want to do the tielfing questline. I'm not going to raid the grove but I was just not going to help them.

Can anyone confirm if this is true and the only way to romance Wyll is to actively help the tieflings? Or is there a way around this? Because I do get flirting dialog in camp conversations like "I'd like to see you dance" when asking what its like to be a son of a duek and "Handsome devil" when Mizora turns him into a devil, so I assumed there was ways outside the standard party to start romance

This is what I heard too, it was changed in patch 7. I had the dance scene trigger when I played a character who was to shy to initiate it, so the bug actually really suited the story. But it also suited the story for them not to actually get together yet, and I thought there'd be another chance in act 3. When there wasn't, I went back to a previous save and it had been patched out. I did manage to hack a save with LsLib to make the game think we'd flirted, and I thought I'd written down how I did it, but I didn't sadly. I tried a similar hack recently: my current character started dating Minthara, but when she said they'd sleep together, ol' squidface got jealous and tried to sleep with him instead.

Are you sure it's patch 7? I've been going though patch notes trying to pin down when it happened but none of them mention a change to Wyll romance

Ah... no. It must have been patch 6 (the romance patch). Looking at my screenshots folder, I defeated Ketheric on 19th January 2024, so that would have been on patch 5. I started replaying act 2 by 25th March 2024, so that's patch 6. I remember there had been a major patch when I looked into the different behaviour, and checking to see if GOG would let me downgrade but I think the old files had gone by then. It could have been changed in a hotfix, but I think it's more likely someone forgot to add it to the changelog.

I always got it to trigger, when I asked him about courtly dances, when he tells about his life as the son of a nobleman and then say something nice at the party to him - that I wished, we could have danced or that I would miss him at the party, basically hints, that there is interest. I like, that it is pretty subtle in Wylls romance. I think important is, that you talk to him at the party and show interest in him. Then when you go to bed, select thinking of Wyll ( something along the line).
I think apart from Lae'zel, Halsin and Astarion, who all ask you, you have to start a romance now. Even Karlach: I had her scene popping up randomly, when the approval was high enough before and now, I have to tell her that I like her at the party.

With Karlach it seems to depend on whether you already started flirting with someone or not. If you are completely single (having arranged to spend the night with someone apparently doesn't count) she is hitting on you during the party, if you already had a romance scene with someone before this point (for example had a bottle of wine with Shadowheart and kissed), you have to make the first move. Her scene outside of the party apparently doesn't play at all anymore.

I always have make the first move with Karlach. I at least have to tell her, I like her. Even if I don't flirt with anyone. With Lavi for example Karlach was the only character,she flirted with, approval is very high, and she still has to initiate the romance with Karlach since patch 7 I think. Same with Wyll.
