Best fun I've had is pseudo-solo figher with a big 2-hander. Pseudo-solo because I have Gale along for Haste, and Shadowheart along for whatever that +2 AC armor spell is.
I then have them hide away during the fight. Super Githyanki does all the work, NPC or Lae'zell (or a Gnome with disguise self on.) Fun fact, you can take booming blade and battlemaster at the same time, make each hit count hard, not just every other one. Until battle master points run out.
I've discovered the joys of savage attacker. Great weapon master makes you wiff too much on bosses, which is who you really need that extra damage against. And yard trash doesn't need the extra damage.
