This gets it as Sorc Tav, using Gale as intermediary. It worked, but I may have goofed not having Gale learn it like any other scroll first, then he'd have it too "according to the Internet". Feel free to experiment.
1. Got the scroll. Did not open the mirror, or talk to it, much less get the Necromancy.
2. Went back to camp
3. Put Gale in party (he was not)
4.
Respec me (Tav) to Wiz 1, that is all, don't know if this needs to be done before 5 but there it is.
5. In camp, Gale summons
<< Argh, shit-piddling toe rag!...
(Gale fails an int check, I didn't even notice until I reviewed the dialog, not that I could do anything about it. Something about the stink of sulfur...oh oh, you know what that means! Unless you're Gale.

6. Dialog ends, switch to Tav, who is only level 1 wizard.
7. Talk to Shovel, who's still standing there in camp with Gale.

Tav now has Shovel as a "Common" spell, can confirm by looking in spellbook under Common tab.
Respec to Sorc, it remains as a common spell.
No mirror, no walking through the mirror, no zone changes, nothing.
Honor mode run, so I'm glad my planning worked out. I tried once before for a sorc but could never get it solved.
