I recall an old D&D description of plate mail (plate armor wasn't even a thing in that world yet, they said, but would have cost even more) costing like 400 or 450 gold, an insane amount. This was described as something a lord would have (as in House of Lords, or the Landsraad, in Dune terms), and was "about as costly as a modern corporate jet."

A gold piece was not the value of a rotting fish back then!

I can't imagine what any significant +magic items would cost on that scale. Well, yes, the handbooks said some. Anyway, +3 plate mail isn't pret-a-porter. That would go at auction with other Lords bidding, like a Rembrant. Good luck with that!
