I always get a weird bug with this quest and I've had it on 3 playthroughs now and reported it but it seems not fixed again.
I usually rescue the tieflings before I've even been to Last Light and go there on the boat with them. (Because Barcus asks me to rescue his friend so I don't need to speak to anyone else to get a quest to rescue folks).
Cal and Lia are there in the boat and disembark at Last Light with everyone else. Rolan is in the Inn and has his breakdown scream at them for going off and getting captured. . I wander around and get the quest completed 'Rescue the Tieflings', also Rolan gives me money and thanks me for reunited his family.
At that point if I leave the Inn Rolan disappears from the Inn and goes to rescue Cal and Lia (who he was just with in the Inn) and I have to go rescue him - which usually necessitates a fair bit of save skumming so I get to the relevant place at just the right time so he is there but still alive - sigh. (BTW thanks Jandorf - have saved those consol commands).
The quest it seems is not flagging properly. as he shouldn't go wandering off once the quest is completed in the first place. So given there's obviously one flag not working - there's most likely more than one which might explain other folks issues with this quest.
