Sadly the troubleshooting steps provided by Larian didn't work for me and I think I tried everything listed in GrayHex post and the Mac crashes FAQ. I sent a crash report to Larian with logs and my current save game attached.
Hoping they'll pin that bug down and can fix it with a coming update/hot fix!
