Well, apparently it's synonymous with having a mod enabled, and that's easy enough to check, or turn off globally in the mod manager. You just have to remember to do it before starting the game.
It would be nice though for the start game to give you a warning when selecting Honor mode, and giving a button to disable all mods in that case.
