I dunno about larger battles.
If you want large battles, you either have to tone down the graphics very substantially or you will have a LOT of lag.
But yes, I generally enjoy base building. Assuming that you have sufficient freedom to build what you want and there are meaningful options what to have. Base building is for example a big element in No Man's Sky and I enjoyed it quite a lot, though I often hit the maximum element limit and then had to spent a lot of time putting stuff as far away from the base as possible.
