Yes, dual wield doesn't really work like that in reality. It's always ever been a way cool thing, born of the idea "If I hold two weapons, I can do 2x the damage, coooool!"

Nor do polearms, which are more keep-away pokie things, good luck getting past a trained poker with your sword or dagger, even with good armor and skill.

At least polearm master introduces a free reaction when someone first gets in range to reflect that.
