I have had some success in removing the crashes, and now have a largely very stable game. There have been the odd hangs, still in the cutscene transition, but overall I'm much happier. That may change as I get into the later Acts, where things get more busy ofc..
Given the previous posts in the thread as a guide I started a process of elimination with background processes and system extensions. I have found that a specific network extension in my case was the cause.
I had LuLu installed, which is a network filter extension (a firewall of sorts) for outgoing filtering, eg preventing rogue apps from phoning-home to unknown destinations.
Although BG3 was whitelisted, whenever LuLu was active I would experience the frequent crashes. When switched to inactive, though still running in the background, the crashes went away.
Regrettably I had to stop using LuLu, especially as it's Open Source, and implement a different filtering solution. After evaluation, Little Snitch fitted the bill.
Since then, as I said, it's been a lot more stable.
I still have a case open with Larian which has been passed to the devs, and they have a couple of process sample dumps to work on. Hopefully they will eventually come back with a similar diagnosis.
To anyone experiencing this problem, it is definitely worth experimenting with what else is running on your machine in a process of elimination. It might not be exactly the same solution as mine, but if you have system extensions installed, worth a try.
