Bioware of course never owned the license, they got it from Lucas Arts for KotoR1 and nothing else.
Just like Obsidian got the license for KotoR2.
Bioware was sold to EA and ever since only exists in name. The founders of Bioware have quite quickly left EA, probably sad what had become of their once so successful company.
Bioware now stands for inexplicibly poor products like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age: Veilguard.
