Then again, they once asked in a poll on a forum if I'd press a button, knowing it would randomly kill somebody (1 out of all the people on the world, you can't predict who), and get like $1000 or $10000 (forgot the exact amount). Of course I said yes, I probably even would in reality. Scarry ain't it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" />
Reminds me of a short story I read a long time ago where that happened. A woman was given a small box with a button and told someone she didn't know would die if she pressed it, and she would get $100,000. Her husband thought this unethical, but she spent some time rationalizing and hit the button the next day while he was at work. So supper time rolls around and there comes a knock on the door. It seems her husband slipped and fell on the way home and was hit by a bus. He had a $50,000 life insurance policy, and since it was an accidental death that would be doubled. The woman was rather grief stricken. When the person later returned to retrieve the box, she pleaded with him that there must be a mistake, since she was told someone she didn't know would die. His response was to the effect, "Did you
really know your husband? Does anyone
really know anyone else?"
The Twilight Zone type stories I've read/seen where someone travels back in time to kill someone to prevent the deaths that they caused have rarely turned out for the better. It will be interesting to see how this is dealt with in Riftrunner.
