Hey all,
Ran into an issue last night that I'm completely stuck with.
Been running BG3 on my Acer Nitro 16 with AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor and NVIDIA geforce rtx for the last two years with no issues save for the occasional crash. Everything has been smooth as butter.
Last night I'd been playing for around six hours on my modless honour mode save. Had had a smaller crash earlier in the day but it seemed pretty normal, and the game opened up as normal after. However in the main hall of Moonrise post Myrkul I went to open dialogue with an NPC when the screen stuttered then froze. Audio played out as normal, and my cursor was fine for a few seconds before everything froze completely. Then, black screen. Laptop crashes entirely, couldn't even send a crash report. Upon restarting I reinstalled and updated my graphics drivers as the NVIDIA app said they weren't installed any more, and checked that everything else with my PC was running smooth (CPU and everything are fine). Then tried to reopen the game to resume playing.
Immense lag even from the Larian logo, and the loading screen was stuck on 100 for about five minutes. When I eventually got to the main menu there was similar lag, the animations on the title screen were incredibly choppy. However all audio and sound cues were as normal, including the chain sound when you click the button to access the menu, and the button clicking sounds themselves. Everything in the game seems to be accessible, like I tried loading into my two most recent saves and could get in, though with the same issue of normal audio and laggy framerate 1-5 seconds behind the audio. Went into settings to check that everything was optimised, that I was using the actual graphics card, and everything was exactly the same as it had been pre-crash. I tried turning on FPS cap and setting everything graphics-wise to low. No dice.
So far I've tried:
- Disabling Steam overlay
- Verifying installation and checking file integrity
- In the game settings, capping FPS, changing quality to low
- going into the NVIDIA app and changing some settings
- on laptop control panel, making sure the game is interacting with the correct graphics card. Have tried a few settings.
- launching through Vulkan (I usually use DX11) - this gave me a Fatal Error, Failed to Enumerate Physical Devices. I don't know enough about hardware to really know what this means, but I guess it's something to do with how my graphics card interacts
Currently trying a full reinstall as nothing else has worked, but not feeling optimistic. Has anyone else had similar issues and knows of any fixes? I'm not very well versed in pc hardware so my only guess is something's gone awry with the graphics.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want to get my game back to normal!
