I mean think it dos2 and bg3 we had some companions and since this is turn based strategy having a few companions is probably what will happen. (on a side note I hope we can bring all the companions, all of them to the battle like in fe4 have large battles). I mean if the companions are anything like those in bg3/dos2 it will be nice to see what a darker world since the trailer maybe have an orc companion or Malady etc. Not sure what people might want but I am hoping well that we can make them better or worse depending on the goals of the specific play though.

Will be fun to find out who the companions are! I hope for some good and more serious companions with lots of companion scenes and quests. Also lots of elves. A pet cat would be great as well.

I would wish more diversity, not another group of humans and elves. I want dwarves, lizzards and whatever other races DOS has. The BG3 companion cast was pretty lacking in that regard.
And good stories and characters would be nice. More focus on development and maybe a more versatile friendship path.
And a main character that feels more involved. I know, that the DOS games basically wanted you to play an origin to experience the whole story and I would prefer to make my own character.
"We are all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."

I first and foremost hope that we get a variety of characters in terms of race, age, background and aesthetics, not just a lineup for the Rivellon edition of The Bachelor.
Secondly I hope for companions that match the darker theme that was hinted at in the trailer. Characters who are grittier, more complex and flawed and not fluffy Disney princesses.

The Red Prince was in theory pretty dark. Slaver, demon summoner,... But Larian can't write serious characters. And when they continue BG3s trend of just having waifus I doubt that there will be any dark character.

I'm hoping we get a very diverse cast of companions.
Ideally, we get companions so diverse that you cannot recruit them all. Due to them not agreeing with each other (Such as Evil/Good characters, or companions with particular prejudices against certain races)
I don't wish for "Bring all companions for large battles" because my experience of that is it's more tedium than anything actually cool (To say nothing about how balancing around people bringing everyone will mean that if you dislike any companions it sucks because you have to bring them along or it'd make combat much harder - Unless we get a super OP Lone Wolf feat and forgo almost all companions entirely...)
If we do get to recruit more companions than are able to fit in our party, I hope they are handled better. Not just killing them off instantly like in DOS2 or having them sit in camp forever like in BG3. I'd want to see them have some autonomy, meaning that if they're not in the active party, they'll actually be out in the world trying to further their own goals, meaning you can stumble across them and help them out with their personal quests without having to bring them in your party (With also the potential for consequences for ignoring them, such as them making poor decisions, being injured or even killed because they went alone and you didn't aid them).
Heck, maybe if you'd recruited enough companions and they got along well enough, they'd roam the world as another party and would be more successful at achieving their own goals.
Which also brings about another aspect of companions - Intercompanion relationships. Having them interact with other companions and gain/lose favour as a result. Meaning certain companions can develop rivalries if they don't align with each other, or can develop strong friendships (Or even relationships) if they get along well.
I know the game Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch had intercompanion relationships, whereby bringing along companions would allow them to gain positive relationships from certain events which lead to special intercompanion dialogues and bonuses when fighting together (In the form of stat boosts when stood next to each other and chances to proc helpful effects like auto casting a heal when the ally is attacked, or retaliating against a monster that attacks them). This was neat even if only one sided due to only having positive gain, even for the companions that hated each other.

And I hope that Larians idea of diversity is not just different race/class/gender variations but also includes backstory and personality.
Give me the duty bound soldier uninterested in romance, the desperate husband and father trying to protect his family and not only playersexual, willing companions unbound by any commitment like in BG3.
I don't want just Arueshalae and Regongar, but also Harrim, Sosiel or Argenta.

I would love pets that actually add to game play too. Such as spotting hidden objects, providing some advantage, or scouting.
Cats Dogs pseudo dragon anyone? (always wanted this one) Bats/Ravens/Eagles/Hawks small primates imps ferrets/rats/mice/etc. Wild Animals (Boar, Bear, Large Cats, Mule etc.)

I like the idea of giving them roles or jobs at your camp (or home base if you get one). For example they can be used to send off on side missions with different outcomes based on their capabilities. Creating/Crafting items, seeking merchants to join your camp, investigating POI that lead to future game play (or simply return with information/loot etc.) Lots of ideas around this where they add to the camp and party without joining you on missions and perhaps even discovering hidden missions otherwise not available.

I just hope we get at least one conventionally attractive male and female available as companions and romance options. I'm fine with more niche options being present for those that like them, provided that it does not come at the expense of what the majority of people are attracted to.
I hope Larian are well aware of the fact that whilst certainly very vocal, those who are interested in romancing non-human and non-elven companions are very much a minority. One that should not be neglected, though certainly not given the majority of attention either.
In other words, variety can only truly be the spice of life if it works with rather than against more conventional options.

Could you stop filling every thread with this bandwagon fallacy that you are speaking for some "silent majority". We all speak for ourselves as individuals and what we personally prefer. Regardless of whether we are a minority or not, we are all entitled to share our opinions and that they are judged based on their merit, not on their popularity.

It is unfortunate that you feel that way. I am simply providing feedback of my own on a subject that I care about. You are very welcome to agree to disagree.

In other words, variety can only truly be the spice of life if it works with rather than against more conventional options. No one in this thread has even brought up romance or attraction. So I don't understand why you are coming after "those who are interested in romancing non-human and non-elven companions". People have talked about variations in terms of concept, design, party mechanics and more non-romantic relationships or companions that are not primarily love interests. I don't think you need to worry that there won't be a conventionally attractive companions available to romance. It is more or less a foregone conclusion that there will be, which is why many of us are interested in talking about things that we don't already assume will be included.

Again, it is unfortunate that you feel that way. I am not looking for an argument and I am willing to agree to disagree. I will, however, post feedback as I see fit.

@Chadston: Hi and welcome to the forum! You seem to have read the forum rules, so you probably know that you're not the only judge of the fitness of your feedback.
For example, we prefer our feedback video-game related. Opinions of other posters' feelings are not necessary. If you truly aren't looking for arguments, it's more convincing to move on than to say so.
And if you or anyone has any issue on the forum, including with moderation, feel free to DM any mod.
I look forward to your prolific writing, happy posting!

If the companions look strange, I'll just ignore them and continue playing alone. I also think that most, if not all, will be okay regardless of their relationship to the main character and I'm sure there will be more than just humans and elves. That was the case in Divinity: Original Sin 2, for example.

I really hope to have a charming male lizard companion! But I also hope that Divinity has at least one hot male human companion for romance (like Nathan Drake, Young Big Boss, Jacob Custos etc..), I'll be fine. It would be disappointing for me if my only human companion was ugly and uninteresting.

I will try to run (to mix BG and Divinity) a "no horns, no tails, no fangs in the party" plan. I'm curious wether it will be possible. I can understand that many would like more exotic companions and I hope Larian will try to please all/as many players as possible. But there is only one (highly improbable) way Larian could make me to not buy the game, forced player identities/visuals a la Witcher and Co., other than that I would possibly accept even 12 lizards out of 12 companions ...
