Hi everyone,

first of all, I want to say how much I love Baldur’s Gate 3. The amount of care that went into the game and its localisation is truly amazing. ❤️

While playing the German version, I came across the phrase “Jedem das Seine.”
Even though it may look like a natural translation of “to each their own,” this expression is extremely historically burdened in German-speaking countries, because it is directly associated with the inscription at the Buchenwald concentration camp.

Because of that, it is not perceived as a normal idiom anymore and can be very jarring to encounter in a game.

I am sure this was not intended in any way, and this is not meant as a complaint — I just wanted to raise awareness, as it might break immersion or be uncomfortable for some players.

Depending on the context, more neutral alternatives could be:
• „Jeder wie er mag“
• „Jedem nach seinem Geschmack“
• „Soll jeder machen, wie er will“

Good catch! Ich weiß nicht ob Larian das noch selber nachbessert, aber wir haben eine kleine deutschsprachige Modding community, die eine kontinuierliche Verbesserung an der deutschen Übersetzung vornimmt. Hilfreich wären auf jeden Fall Screenshots und Detailangaben für die Ausbesserung z. B. wo genau das zu finden ist (bin zwar selber Erfurter und mir wäre es auch direkt ins Auge gestochen, aber ich bin bisher nie über Akt 1 hinaus gekommen). ;-)
