the extra added damage i.e. fire, poison, etc. is alright if you really want to use it but it never really helped me out that much. I realized late in the game that I should have used the points I put into those skils into something else more helpful. Deathblow and possibly flash attack are the substitutes I would have used. That may help if you're playing as a warrior.
