Just one hitpoint an hour? What if your character's vitality or constitution is very high? I know there is "survivors instinct", which is a skill that grants a character the ability to regenerate vitaliy but does a person have to choose that skill? After a battle, when a wizard has used up a lot of mana, it's nice to see it recharge with time without sleeping or drinking potions, especially if his intelligence is high.

That's logical.
It's the way your health regenerates in real life. If you get your body horribly muttilated by an orc with dual axes, believe, me you won't regenerate your wounds in two hours.
