Yeah thats a valid idea, but then to make it viable you should get more stats to put on it when it levels up.
Another thing that would be cool is as you give it more intellegence, it can talk to you and give you hints. And as you put up its constitution, its durability goes up. And more strength on it gives it better damage, and more speed gives it faster recuperation time!
