Well, it didn't do anything to my computer...it scanned everything and came back with the virus/worm.
It think systamtech (or whatever) is pretty safe, and a repetable company...
If you have Norton though, you may have to dump it and re-instal it, the worm seemed to screw mine up.

Thanks Carrie I'm going to do it. I still want to figure out how to leave it on the other "side" of my firewall though. We have broadband at home and I guess they expect to see only one IP address - so we'll have to find out how we would have to address that issue. Our router being one IP and the work computer being another.

Hope my computer doesn't blow up tomorrow.

Are you getting zone alarm pro or zone alarm?

Zonealarm is ok. And free. If you don't really need the extras you don't have to get the pro-version.

It's an office computer so I'll go for the freebie. If I were home in Texas I would have BlackIce, but Seattle's a bit to far away from Fort Worth.

It's after midnight where you're at, right Seth? Any issues with the internet that you can see?

None what-so-ever.
Mind you, I never had troubles before.
Always keep the antivirus, firewall and windows version up to date. And other things. Like changing proxy regularly.
Although that can be anoying. Some even block mp3 sites.

What is the problem here? You don't have to be online to run the removal tool.
If you have the tool, just run it offline (unplug the modem/card if you have to) with the restore thingy turned off. After that run it again to check. And you should be ok.

Many consider BlackIce not to be a good product.

Therefore I use Zonealarm.

When you find a big kettle of crazy, it's best not to stir it.

Im getting the secret idea that firewalls with bad silly names are not good firewalls. Was this a bad gut feeling or what?

I'm just paranoid now about putting this computer that goes back and forth to work (where they don't keep the latest patches) behind my firewall with my computers that I do try to keep patched and protected. It feels like I'm putting a snake in with a bunch of mice. <shudder>

Ah. I get it. But if your puter is up to date you shouldn't worry.

And it will give you the chance to secure the labtop, once it's cleaned.

I had my windows updated a long time ago. However everyone is scaring me so I went out and installed 2 firewalls and 1 virus protection. So now im protected by a router, 2 firewalls and a virus protection program. Talk about insane.

Meanwhile today August 16 at 3:36pm i would like to say happy virus armageddon day er i mean day of reckoning, doom, turmoil, judgement and complete and utter chaos of computers.

this from my service provider.....

The following websites contains information on
how to help protect your computer against the worm:

* Download the Microsoft software patch at:
http://bulletins.telus.net/cgi-bin1/DM/y/edE60Fz6zP0Fhk0FfWi0AN

* Download latest patches from Windows software at:
http://bulletins.telus.net/cgi-bin1/DM/y/edE60Fz6zP0Fhk0FfWj0AO

* For more detailed information regarding the worm, please visit:
http://bulletins.telus.net/cgi-bin1/DM/y/edE60Fz6zP0Fhk0FfWk0AP

An anti-virus software program could help detect and
potentially remove the virus from your computer. If you
have anti-virus software installed, get the latest virus
information from your anti-virus vendor's Web site.

It is strongly recommended that you install and use
anti-virus software on a regular basis; however, no known
Internet security solution is able to provide absolute protection.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,
TELUS Internet Services

NetDefense™: This personal firewall, powered by Sygate®, protects your system against intruders.

It never failed me, and it is up to me to make it formidable up to the level of isolating me completely and not being able to brows or make it just about ajar for me to peep through onto the net or I can drop the walls completely. There is nothing silly about that.
To use a fire wall successfully one has to learn how to light a match.

There's already a new one around. Called Sobig.F
It's attached to junkmail. Like there are hundreds of others I guess.

It will be deactivated on 09/10 so setting your systemdate to 09/11 is a simple way to get rit of it.

It might be some sick joke... I mean, 09/11...
