No we didn't. In our case the intrusive ads were only been presented at a low interval. Also some on the team have the no-ads option enabled so they don't get them anyway. We also only showed the ads every 12 hour, after which they were not shown again. So these two combined resulted in a fair chance not getting them.
Only after we got complaints we investigated things better and did some tracking of which the result was that we stopped using the service.

I know the situation is not entirely comparable to AllRPG, but walking away is a too easy option. Sending them an e-mail is not that much trouble is it?

I don't have any questions about how they make money. Ads pay very badly, We have some 30 million hits a month and some 500000 unique visitor sessions in that month and even those numbers are not able to cover the expenses of one server given the ad income. So I doubt AllRPG is able to make ends meet.
