I succeeded the Investigation check when first talking to Doni, so I went down to talk to Mol. She started her countdown, but I was able to escape before she finished.
So I then rescued Mirkon, and went to talk to Doni. He didn't have the "dragon's lair" response, so I just went down there. Mol thanked me for saving Mirkon and then said to come back anytime because I'd been a friend to them.
After that dialogue ended, Mol continued her countdown and the thieflings ran away. When I went back up I was arrested for bothering children.
Back when this game first released there was a mod to fix Mol. Two years later I didn't think I'd have to use it again.
For now I'll just reload and not even speak to Doni before Mirkon tells me to. Ugh, three hours later...
