In camp, Scratch has a ! over his head, but I cannot click on him. I can click on the Owlbear Cub, or anyone else, just not him.

I went to bed, it warned me about someone in camp wants to talk to me. As far as I can tell he's the only one. I went to bed anyway.

The ! went away, but he's still not clickable. I had a potion of speak to animals on before I went to bed, if that makes a difference.

Any ideas? I'm guessing I just missed out on some dog drool-covered piece of stale bread, but we'll never know.

Mouse hover and right click allows me to examine him, so it's not like he's completely lost to the interaction part of the game engine. Right click menu has no "Talk" option, not even grayed out, while everyone else has this as a roundabout way to initiate dialog.

In the past few months of gameplay I had similar blockings. It seems to occur much more frequent than in the past.
Just lately I had something similar in the requisitioned barn in Rivington where I had to talk no Nestor but he was nowhere to be found.
One or two other recent hickups like this have occurred. (I do have mods )

Thing I've learned when the game seems mysteriously stuck like that, is to examine the partymembers portraits and if there is a portrait with the text bubble next to it, click on that one. By selecting this member the situation may unblock. (As it did for me in Rivington)

I thought about leaving camp to summon Scratch. I may still try it, because even though the ! is now gone, I still can't click on him.

It shouldn't. You should always be able to interact with him at camp (with or without the prompt showing and also with or without Speak with Animals active). The difference is just the way the conversation is handled as you cannot have a dialogue with him if you don't have Speak with Animals up.

As for ideas: I find that many "stoppers" can be circumvented by quick-saving, quitting the game and then re-starting/re-loading.

I did quit and restart, but it was still broken. It's started working again at some point, it's a mystery now!
