I know this is an old, old topic, but I just bought myself the
Diablo & Diablo II + LoD package for only $25.00 USD.
I installed Diablo and what can I say, but WOW!!!!
Yes, the graphics are super, super old, but it is sooooooo good!!!
At least I think it’s a great game for being an older game.

I chose to play a Rogue and she is doing super good so far!

And to think I shy’d away from these games; because, I couldn’t pause them during game play.
And yes, I play a lot of games simultaneously.
I do that; because, I get bored real quick and this way I don’t get bored.

There's something that starts the adrenaline flowing about not having that pause option. Its still good, I reinstall it every once in a while to get that old skool feeling once again.

Loved the rogue, my first character I ran through the game with.

I never found Diablo when I'looked for it, so I bought D2 instead . Allways thought the second game would be better... Maybe if I find it, I can play it in the future...

My single Disc has both.
I only installed the Retail.

Spawn is for multi-play. So an spawn install on another computer would run as a user for a multi-player game but require the computer using of the original disk to host the game.

I think, correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Nice system, saves people money if they want to set up multiplayer networks in their homes.

While the first diablo is a very good game, diablo 2 is a lot better. When you add the latest patch you get so much more content into the game. If you like collecting loot you'll love diablo 2 There are tons of set items, unique items, and then runes which you can place in socketed items in the right order to create runewords.

Diablo 2 is basically like the first, but with so much more stuff and somewhat better graphics. The only thing you don't see enough are skill points.

Yes, AlrikFassbauer

I see.

I played D1 a bit, but found it too dark, too murky (other people might like it just for that - I don't ) , and gave it up somewhere.

However, I liked D2 much better, because it's a bit better ... with more people around, actual camps and so on.

I stopped D2/LOD last year, as I stood before the last boss, but will one day finally finish him - although it's quite hard at that point, because the creature's minionns are all of the "life-leeching" type, so to say. I liked to play a "bowazone" very much, it's my preferred style of play.

Anyway, D1 often remindes me of NetHack - it's basically a similar story - decending down into a crypt.

But what NetHack didn't have in terms of graphics, they (the devs) outrun it (the lack of great graphics) with their wits and richness of detail !

Alrik.

By the way, I partially lost my interest in D2 because at one point my inventory was full of uniques and set items and runes and such stuff and I didn't want to give them away !

get ready for the butcher, king leoric, lava dogs/spawns, and the succubi (they are much, much more dangerous here than in d2:lod).

imho, diablo is more difficult and more fun than lod. true, lod had better items, larger area, more skills, more characters. but nothing beats the claustrophobic & nail-biting feeling you get in d1. you never know what you will run into when you turn a corner. and they are very tight corners. it's so easy to run away from monsters in lod. in d1, nocando. you can't run. period.

i almost got dizzy inside that dungeon where you find slipsnot (the tavern banner quest). ohh you'll find him soon enough. such a small area and...i'll stop here before this turns into a big spoiler. another spoiler (well, sort of):

one of the most frightening moments i've had in my rpg playing was when i got teleported to archbishop lazarus's lair. played that area around midnight in my darkened room and the only thing i can hear was the haunting sound in my headphone. ahh, it's good to be reminded of those good, old days. of being chased by the butcher. when skeletons were more frightening.

have fun!
Posted By: Shyon Re: Diablo - 04/01/05 06:54 AM
Hellfire expansion - never played - i'll look for it right now.
The atmospheare of the game is nice a lot, always keep you warning.

D2 i play almost every day, how my key was cloned and canceled i have to buy another original version to play again at battlenet - so i'm doing original single player characters.

My chars:
Necromancer 82: Skel mastery + Skel revive + bone spear + bone spirit

Assassin 72: Dragon talon + venom + Fade + Shadow Master - about 2k for kick - about 3 or more kicks per hit with medium equipment.

Assassin 79: Tiger + Dragon Tail + Phoenix Strike + Fade + Shadow Master - about 14k in one single kick with medium equipment - very powefull against packs of monsters what aren't imune to fire - can kill 10 monster with one kick if they are close enough.

Paladin 60: Zeal + Sacrifice + Fanatism + Holy Shield

Barbarian 40: Concentration + Shout + Battle orders + Mace Mastery + Bash

Amazon 75: Lightning fury + cold arrow + freezing arrow + valkirye

Druid 69: Cyclone armor + Twister + Tornado + cyclone + Oak of Sage - this one no one is imune.

I'm thinking to do a barbarian of trowing weapons. Just in need of good weapons - maybe trow mastery + double swing + shout + battle orders + (one skill what you want to use(like berserk for phisical imunity) or iron skin for more defense + 1 grin ward(i'm thinking about this: you kill a guy - and active grim ward, you stay in the center of grim ward while the enemies are running around of the ward you stay in the center trowing your killer knifes or axes).

Any ideas to make the build better?

Well, I played last night and I got all the way to the Entrance of level five in the church.
Spoiler :
First of all, levels one through three was pretty much a cakewalk and easy to do, but upon entering level four I was hammered with creatures. I’d run to the upper right corner and kill one or two creatures then run back down to the steps leading back to level three and kill one or two more and I kept doing this until I eradicated them all. It seemed like 16 to 18 of them all on me at once. AND yes I did die a few times here. I think it was three times, but I finally got them, with a lot of running back and fourth and lots of healing, Potions, Scrolls, and Spells.
I met this creature named “Gharbad the Weak” on level four and he told me, "Please don't kill me, I will prove to be useful to you." So I left him alone and went about the 4th level of the church. Then I met this other creature named “Snotspill” and he wanted me to bring him some item, but I didn’t understand what he wanted. So I continued moving around the fourth level of the church. I finally cleared out the fourth level and I found this Tavern Sign. I thought it was kind of a strange thing to find in a church so went back to “Gharbad the Weak”. He gave me a pretty cool short sword. I then went back to “Snotspill” and talked to him. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never saw so many creatures pop up all at once!!!
It made me feel like I was playing one of “Beyond Divinity’s” Battle Fields!!!!
I am so happy I built up enough magic stats and I found that “Wall of Fire” spell because it saved my life!!!
My little Rogue used that Wall of Fire spell twice and plugged the creatures on her side of the wall with arrows. WHEW! I survived that battle without even dieing once.

I noticed that “crusader” gave a little heads up about Snotspill, but I never read that post until today after I finished the battle with Snotspill last night.

Oh well, that’s where I am at right now.
I guess I should finally do something about this “Poisoned Water Supply” and this “Magic Rock” the townsfolk keep bantering about.

Nice ubereil, i like a lot of set itens too, but sometimes i prefer elite unique to use.

Here's the man(trow barb, i will test it tomorrow to see if it's really effetive):

Trow Mastery - 20
Double Swing - 20
Double Trow - 20
Shout - 20
Battle Orders - 20
Howl - 1(Pre-requisite)
Battle command - 1
Iron Skin - 1
Natural Resistance - 2
Increase Stamina - 1
Increase Speed - 1
Find potion - 1
Find gold - 1
Green Ward - 1

Strategy - Scream - kill someone, active green wards stay close of the green wards while you kill what left.

Now i only have to make the tests of damage and defence obtained to see if is worth. And about the equipment. When the tests be concluded i'll let you know.

throw barbs are a lot more fun than the usual "whirl-til-you_barbs", not to mention that they're more survivable in 1.10. melee chars really have it rough in the latest patch iteration of d2:lod.

i'm not really certain about the synergies but i don't think you need the 20 pts in double-swing, unless of course there's a synergy bonus with double throw & throw mastery. again, i can' recall this now.

you're much better off pumping war cry. it stuns opponents (duration is not reduced in hell) and at high levels, can cause a lot of damage to monsters before they even get to you.

and btw shyon, it's grim ward, not green ward.

get a holy freeze merc, act ii desert mercs defensive. they have a much better chance of surviving swarms of monsters. the might merc just doesn't cut it in 1.10. the might merc is much better off with an overlord necro, as the necro's minions will serve as a wall while the merc's aura will enable the skellies to chop everything in their path.

you'll have a very easy time hitting enemies from range as they are being slowed by the merc's holy freeze aura.

My first char was acually a frenzybarb. Man, he was quick (only got to lvl 54, but still...). Used to MF with him on lower lvls... Never tried a throwingbarb, even though I allways thought I would, since I had all the right equipment (2x Gimmershred, one of the best throwing weponds in the game...).

PS A friend of mine (not really my friend, I acually never liked him... We just happened to be in the same class for two years) really annoyed me when I played. He had EVERYTHING when it came to items. I had one Buriza, he had seven. He had SOJ, h had FULL, yes FULL Tal-Rasha's. He had everything! And I never really found anything, most my items came from a friend... DS

Thanks for the correction - grim ward.
About the double swing at 1.10 is a synergie for double trow what receive 8% more damage per lvl of double swing.

About the war cry, maybe it's a good idea, but is not for 20 points, is only one for the grim ward and it would be for the warcry too, so i don't know if the stun time is still good enough to stop the beasts even with the + all skills.
I was thinking about the holy freeze merc or the blessed aim merc to hit everyone in the first strike, or if i have ignore's defence target in one of my weapons i could get the defiance merc for max defense with shout and one lvl of ironskin + all skills.

you don't need the blessed aim merc at all. as a throw barb, you should be pumping your dex, because throwing weapons require high dex and just a bit of str. for normal, you can do a pattern of 1 str, 3 dex, and 1 con. put a little more into con once your dex meets weapon requirements. and you will not be having problems hitting because double throw & throwing mastery will boost your AR to stratospheric levels.

in my experience playing a throw barb in hell, a holy freeze merc works best.

that's it. have a sunshiny day!

you shouldn't be obsessed with finding all the runes for a hammerdin. it's a build that is very much dependent on the right synergies (blessed hammer, blessed aim, vigor, conc) and not on "uber" equipment. you can play a hammerdin butt-naked and monsters, expecially undead, will still die en masse easily.

but this is kyra's diablo 1 thread. we're hijacking it already. back on topic for now. we can start a new thread for d2: lod. ok guys?

Grim ward is for PvM i think the war cry version would be better for multiplayer.

When you trowbarb is ready, share it with us. I like to play with different chars, not always the same swordman - i made a test with an editor and the man(trowbarb) is a killer, i`m creating now the original version into the single player game.

I read this into a forum - how to do always the superdrop in the superbosses(didi, meme, andariel, baal). You create a hell game with a char what already finished all bosses, so you enter with the char what didn`t kill yet but is strong enough to kill, go to the quest screen of the char what didn`t kill the bosses and see if the quest to kill has a message like this: "This quest can`t be completed now" and go there and kill the boss with the char what didn`t kill yet and - Superdrop - close the game and repeat.

Not yet, but i'll do it tomorrow with sure.
I saw it in a guide for the fire/rabies druid.

Go to www.diabloii.net - and look at the menu for strategy compendium and look for hybrid druid or fire/rabies druid, if you go there until today or tomorrow is the last addition, so will be at the principal screen.
In the middle of the guide - the guy mention this.

You guys made me thinking about starting again! [Linked Image]

I was thinking of a bowazon though, and just as a compliment to my failing DotA skills. Maybe I sould DL Sacred...

Shyon: Tried it once last night starting my game with my hammerdin who had completed norm baal. I then brought my lvl 42 frost zealot into the game and killed norm baal. The drop was good, no mf. 6 items, 4 magic, 1 rare, 1 pair of magefist (unique).

I'm sure if I'd killed him with the lvl 80 hammerdin I'd have got a scroll of tp and some gold so it seems to be good. Only tested once though. Maybe a good method for SOJ finding.

Sweden is probably 6 or 7 hours in front?
Posted By: Ubereil Re: Diablo - 07/01/05 03:33 PM

Here the time is 16...32?!? Probably five hours in front... Add my currently disturbed rythm of day (go up at 14.00-15.00, go to sleep 4.00... I'm gonna be dead on monday morning )

Yup, I can give you some starter gear. Don't have too much but I can 'powerlevel' you fast. I may be heading out tonight for beers but that's uncertain. Could definately play saturday. I have an MSN account too.

Maybe you have a character YOU whant to build... In that cse we could start together. I wonder how to build my char btw... A bowazon... One skill I've GOT to have is (geeze, can't remember the skillnames!) Guided arrow. That's 22 skills And I'm either gonna have strafe or multishot (I LOVE starfe, but I've heard you'll die on hell ), so that's either 42 or 41 skillpoints. (Hehe, found the perfect buildsite . http://www.d2items.com/skills.php )
So, I have:
Strafe 20
Guided arrow 20
Magic arrow 1
Multishot 1
cold arrow 1

Let's go to passive:

Since I'm gonna keep my range, the dodgeskills are pretty useless. BUT! I think I'm going for Valkyrie, so I need one in each, which gives a small dodgechance...

Inner sight lvl 20= defence:-815 % ...

New skills are:

Valkyrie 20 (allmost added 230, and yes, it would be nice with a lvl 230 valkyrie )
Dodge/Avoid/evade 1
Inner sight 1
Slow missile 1
decoy 1
Crit strike 11 (starts increasing with only one point at lvl 12...)
Penetrate 1
Pierce 1 (maybe I'll just screw this skill... 23% isn't much, and it's NOT worth it when guided arrow won't pierce...)

So:
Strafe 20
Guided arrow 20
Valkyrie 20
Crittical strike 11
dodge 1
evade 1
avoid 1
inner sight 1
slow missile 1
decoy 1
penetrate 1
Magic arrow 1
Multishot 1
Cold arrow 1
Total 82 skillpoints (around lvl 70 this one's finnished).

Then I'll see what to go for. Maybe some improved dodge (good for both ME and my valkyrie ) or some other valkyrie booster. Decoy increases her life, penetrate her hitting (and my hitting, let's see what I need up there).

As you can see this is FAR from a complete planning, but it will work for a while. Tips?

Sorry to poop on your idea but I don't think that will work too well unless you have a really good bow for hell. Strafe and Guided have a problem in that they do not have any synergies. Most bowazons use freezing arrow these days with pierce. This could be coupled with a buriza for big damage. It works pretty well. You won't have to put many points in pierce too.

Lighning fury 'zons are still pretty formidable. I would get at least a titans' revenge for this character though.

One of the better 'zons I made was a lightning fury/freezing arrow hybrid with synergies for freezing arrow maxed out (cold arrow I think) and 20 points in lightning fury. The rest go into valkyrie.

I can always explain this to you online of course.

*gimpy1 and *gimpy2 are my accounts for whispering too.

How do you whisper again? Allways seems to forget that...

And my name will be (guess what?) Ubereil.

Example: for me it will be /w *Gimpy1 (message) -no brackets needed though.

Guess I'll have to catch you tomorrow. My buddy is dragging me out for beers tonight. Sorry.

@ womble & ube: can i join you on your d2 game? are you going to be playing this weekend? i have the whole weekend free: no work, no date w/ my gf (thank god!lol). so it's pure gaming heaven for me.

thing is, i'm in asia so there's a time difference. just tell me when you're scheduled to play. i'll adjust to your schedules, even if it's 'round midnight here, i'll just stay up late. been awhile since i last played d2 and i got to make my broadband connection worth its price. btw, it's 9:15am here, saturday.

maybe i'll just start a new thread on this so we won't be riding along on kyra's thread. just look for d2: lod game thread. with all due apologies, lady kyra.

have a sunshiny day!
