For those of us looking at getting Lionheart - we don't have much longer to wait. Lionheart website
Last time I heard of Lionheart I thought of it as an arcanum rip-off. Well, I might be wrong, of course, so I'll go check...
Yeah, the game is nothing special. The only interesting idea is how the 'sneak' function is done, the rest was used before.
Of course I might be wrong. I might get that game to try it out.

Really? The game that got bashed so much Interplay had to close the forum?

I don't think I'll be too keen...
Posted By: the_bean Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 17/07/03 02:09 PM
if you see the screenshots,
you see that the interface uses 1/3 of the schreen!
my experiance is that the schreen where the information apperars "gets 12 piercing damage" etc...
it's not so good readable (for me)
i would prefere that the text box would be in the full lengt of the schreen, soo you could see a full sentence in 1 row instead of multiple rows

if you understand what i'm saying

Which one? Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel or Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel?
Posted By: Azraell Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 17/07/03 05:55 PM
Sorry but you are wrong.

Lionheart uses the VELOCITY engine, developed by Reflexive.

It is based SOMEWHAT on the fallout engines, in that it has turned based combat and uses the SPECIAL system.

With that said, I can't wait for this game!!
Posted By: janggut Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 18/07/03 04:14 AM
sorry, got my info mixed up. gameplay's very much like fallout tactic: BOS. not fallout: BOS. i don't know how the latter plays though.

i don't know the reason for the bashing of whichever fallout game but fallout tactics is the one that got me hooked to fallout games & SPECIAL system.

go read the interview in Adrenaline Vault for more info. info regarding NPC level vs player level & random item & stats regeneration are very interesting, at least to me.
Posted By: Winterfox Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 18/07/03 08:07 AM
FOS: Brotherhood of Steel was the bashed one. The forum is still closed. Evidently Interplay is too thin-skinned.

So Lionheart is all turn-based, like Fallout? Oh, well, one game more to cross off the "to get" list.
Posted By: Mandrake Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 18/07/03 08:44 AM
Turn based can be good if its well done. Fallouts problem wasnt that it was turn based, it was that the AI was sucky (Especially for your companions, talk about friendly fire). Im willing to wait and see what the reviews say.
Posted By: Winterfox Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 18/07/03 12:35 PM
I can't, and am not going to try to, stand turn-based (with an exception for the "real-time turn-based" used in the FF games), and that is that. I do not need minutes after minutes to click an "attack" button, thanks. Real-time with a pause option prevails any time, any day.

I deeply hate Fallout series, Arcanum, and PoRII for this. I don't care how good the rest of the game is; if I have to suffer sucky combat and have no way to avoid it, the game's off my harddrive.
Posted By: Mandrake Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 18/07/03 12:45 PM
Each to their own. If all that was involved in a turn based system was clicking attack Id hate it too . I havent played PorII or Arcanum (Too many sucky reviews) so I dont know how they play.

I cannot pass by and see my N01 game ever trashed ;0).
In Arcanum you can press "spacebar" to toggle turnbased and real time...

As for you, Mandrake, look here.
Average ratio of 80%. That's pretty high with 50+ reviewers.

Posted By: Winterfox Re: News Flash: Lionheart has gone gold - 19/07/03 05:35 AM
I'm well aware of Arcanum's option to toggle between real-time and turn-based. Real-time is too fast; turn-based is too slow. The combat of this game is, simply put, an ugly mess. (I can probably sit down and list its flaws, but I don't really have the energy to reinstall the game.) The "fatique" system is just ridiculous. The game, to me, is unplayable. All my opinions, of course.

Mandrake: I was simplifying. Casting spells, selecting abilities, whatever -- I don't require five minutes a round for these. And I don't mind Death. He's a nice fellow, once you get to know him...

What's with the fatigue system??
Quest for Glory 1-5 had it, Daggerfall had it, Arcanum had it, Morrowind had it... It's more realistic than being able to swing the sword for an hour. Do you know how heavy a greatsword is? Imagine if you have to swing something which weight 4 kilogramms and swing fast and strong to inflict damage.

You see, often I do not try to be a nice fellow and if I don't care about some people, I don't give a dead cow about what they think of me. You might think of me whatever you wish, I won't die.

I have already expressed my opinion of either approach.

The way "fatique" works in Morrowind (I haven't played Daggerfall, nor Quest for Glory; Arcanum we are presently discussing) is hardly the same as the way it works in Arcanum. Combat in Morrowind, though it can grow boring quickly if you limit yourself to melee, is far smoother than Arcanum's. If nothing else, my character doesn't drop unconscious between every two swings or so. Thanks to the pathetic NPC AI and inability to directly control your "followers", strategies are not possible.

Oh, and if you are talking about realism? Please. My character in Arcanum was initially wearing a bloody dress, and it didn't hinder her movement one bit. Shouldn't there be some sort of dexterity penalty? While at that, shouldn't my character need food and water? How can she walk miles and miles across the map without getting footsore? Damn, this game sucks! It isn't realistic!

Lier! You can control every movement of your NPCs. There are commands like "go", "attack" and such. Combat in Morrowind = Clicking. If you fall unconscious, it's because you're weak so better get some other weapon. Dagger for example.

The game's more realistic than others while still being fun. In every game you can sleep with your armor on. If you sleep in armor, you couldn't move at all the next day. In arcanum at least the helmet has penality to perception and the gauntlets have augmented unarmed damage. If a game's too difficult for you, leave it. Arcanum was the only chanllenging game I played for a very long time.

Did we play the same game? If my memory serves, the only way to give a follower commands is via dialogue. Ridiculous.

By the way, weren't we discussing Lionheart...?
You can actually command your followers in Arcanum. Wasn't too well done but if you right click on the portrait you could. Also the shortcuts were from F1-F12 (i think. I used only F1-F3). I cannot deny that some bits in Arcanum were a bit crudely done: that part and the Called Shot part: did you know that < > and / make your ranged weapon target legs, arms or head? No? Well, I didn't either untill I read the manual. It was mentioned in Shortcuts, with not much of an explanation.
Alright, Arcanum is past. Let's go talk about the Temple of Elemental Evil and Riftrunner :0). Forgive me if I insulted you, Winterfox.
