I been thinking about this for some time now. And I guess I never know if I don't try it.

The idea is to post something that happened on the day you post it. Can be anything. Birth of someone famous (or your birthday ), a discovery, a disaster, ...
Simple, no?

Examples from the last couple of days:
-02 may 1775: Benjamin Franklin finishes his studies about the gulfstream.

-03 may 1860: Vito Volterra is born in Ancona, Italy

-04 may 1825: Thomas Huxley (also known as Darwin's bulldog) is born in Ealing, UK.

-05 may 2005: Setharmon starts a new thread.

I ment:
-05 may 1963: First human liver transplant performed by Thomas Starlz in Denver, USA.

Hmmm... It's 05-05-05 You have to mention the obvious!!

Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of May) is a national holiday in Mexico, which commemorates the victory of Mexican forces, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza, over the French, on May 5, 1862. This holiday is rapidly becoming a favorite celebration in the United States as well. Cinco de Mayo is observed on May 5th each year and is marked by celebrations, fiestas, parades and parties.

24 june Fête nationale du Québec (Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day) in Québec, Canada
The Fête nationale du Québec ("Quebec National Holiday") is the official day of Quebec, a province of Canada. The festivities occur on June 23 and June 24 and are organized by the Comité organisateur de la fête nationale ("national holiday organizing committee"). Originally, June 24 was a holiday honouring the patron saint of Canada, St. John the Baptist. The day still is in fact very often called la Saint-Jean by the population of Quebec.

Although the holiday only has official status in Quebec, it is also celebrated by francophones in other Canadian provinces and in the United States as a festival of French Canadian culture. In these contexts, it is more often called Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day.

Congratulations Québec!!

23 july 1952
- King Farouk of Egypt abdicated after a coup d'état.

On July 23, 2005 a series of attacks took place in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. At least 83 people1 have been killed, with over hundreds wounded, from blasts suspected to have been car bombs.

The first attack (01:00 local time or 22:00 UTC) seems to have taken place in a market, and later on, hitting the Ghazala Gardens hotel, a 176-room four-star establishment in the Naama Bay area, some 6 km from the town centre. The hotel has been "destroyed", according to witnesses. Nile TV, according to CNN, claims that there were three others separate blasts. The blasts were quite powerful, shaking windows miles away, and fire and smoke could be seen from the Namma Bay, a strip of beachfront hotels.

A group calling itself Abdullah Azzam Brigades has claimed responsibilty for the attacks. On a website the group stated that "holy warriors targeted the Ghazala Gardens hotel and the Old Market in Sharm el-Sheikh" and claimed it has ties to Al-Qaida. The authenticity of this statement has not been verified.

On the 26th of September (sorry folks it is the 26th here already) my Dad was born

25 august 19??
Mea's grandmother decided that she would deliver a baby boy the next day, and so she did... to Mea's dad!

Mea & Gal are living in places where there seem to be slight temporal distortions...

August 25: the Opiconsivia Roman festival was held in honor of Ops.
Opiconsivia was also a surname of Ops herself. The Latin word consivia (or consiva) derives from conserere ("to sow"). Hence, the word Opiconsivia may be interpreted as meaning "the sowing of crops", since Ops ultimately means "crops" in the sense of "riches, goods".

@ Barta
You forgot about the one that crashed into the pentagon and the other one that was suppoosed to hit the white house I believe. Anyway, 3000 people got killed in that horrible drama, among them lots of fire-men, ambulancers, and volunteers.
The attack on the WTC was one of the biggest terrorist attacks ever.

October 4th 2005
World animal day: On this day we treat our animals with something special.
But sadly enough, it's not our pets that need such extra treats, but all the animals in cages, used for testing, circus and other inhumane procedures.
Let's all think about:
-the many greyhounds in Spain, that are abused when they loose their ability to win races,
-the grizzlybears in Asia that are used to tap of gallfluids. They are kept in tiny cages, not even big enough to turn,
-the many baby seals, beaten to dead to preserve their white fur.
-whales, the hunt on these mammals is open again
-seahorses, captured to be dried out and used as a natural version of the Viagra pill
-cats in China, skinned alive, because the meat would taste better after the load of adrenaline that went through the cat's body
-circus animals that live in small cages and have to learn stupid tricks to entertain us, every single day
-there are still too many animals on this world, that need a loving home, or their freedom.
We have a women's day, a mother and father's day, even grandparents day. I'm glad that there is an animals day too.

Nothing important happened today. I ate 'Parisare' (named after the capital of France , toast, with a hamburger and a roasted egg. Don't know why it's called that...) for lunch. I've had a headache all day and been pretty tired.
