Wow it was cool
Only hit 6 people, so don't worry

no offcourse now
just started my lessons today

1 thing I noticed is the small feeling of speed you have; before you know you drive way to hard, like 90 in stead of 80.

Well good luck.

I know but driving a car isn´t very difficult, believe me. I´ve got my driving liscense for 3 years now and (thank god) never had an accident or any other serious problem. Believe me it´s not difficult. You have to be very responsible though!
Posted By: LewsTherinKinslayer13 Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 12:56 AM
my uncle was very proud that he got a driving licence in Europe, in Germany specifially. Seems over there, accross the sea, they care about how well you drive actually.

Specially on that one road, was it called? auto bon or something, lol.

well, keep on trying JvB, and sometime you'll relise, "hey, that last time, I didn't hit anyone! wow, maybe not drinking that beer before the test WAS a good idea!"
Posted By: GoldyLocks Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 01:17 AM
don't forget about the old proverb
'when one gets a driving license one suffers the curse of lazyness'
JvB protect yourself from this curse before you get your license.
Posted By: HandEFood Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 01:44 AM
I have a licence. I just refuse to get a car. Life is much cheaper and I get a lot more exercise. I had a car for a while while I house sat for my father. I gave it up very happily. I became lazy and started to feel like a taxi.

Good for you; speed limits are for weenies. And most people don't know how to handle cops, either. Most people see the lights in the mirror and calmly pull over to await instructions from the officer.

That's wrong. The correct thing to do is to floor it. Gun it. Make him chase you. Make him work for it. This makes him respect you. But, just for fun, be sure to have your turn signal on, indicating that you're going to pull over. After a few miles, when the confusion sets it, you suddenly whip a 180 and head in the opposite direction.

While he recovers from this maneouver, you pull over, get out of the car, crack open a beer and kick back on the hood without a care in the world. Have your lawyer on your cell phone by the time he catches you, and simply answer every question with "talk to the cell, tough guy."

Works every time. Trust me.
Posted By: HandEFood Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 02:27 AM
My friend's boyfriend tried that. They sent 8 cop cars and a helicopter after him. Once he pulled over, he was pulled from the car and beaten until he couldn't walk. Thankfully they didn't hurt her as well. Why she's trying to find evidence to keep him out of jail, especially given some of the drama's since then, is beyond me.

i'm like you hef, i've had my liscense for.... almost 5 years? something like that. anyway, i don't have a car. never drive. luckily, there is a bus right on my street that takes me everywhere i need to go. and my boyfriend has a car.

Yeah, I drive Alex's car quite a bit. It's handy given that we work together. Otherwise I walk everywhere or use public transport.
Posted By: janggut Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 06:27 AM
i've my driving license for almost 9 years now but i drove (yes, not drive but drove) for only 2 years or so. can anybody say after me; lazy bum?

my bro drives me to work as we have the same general direction. plus the economical & environmental reasons, all i need to do is help pay for fuel & stuff which is more than fair for me.

a colleague asked me which car i like best, & i answered 63" plasma display.

go figure.

something environmental/nature related. like at a nature center or something. i'd even take the zoo. but although i could drive to these places in under 1/2 an hour, the bus takes usually around 2-3 hours to get any of these places. my city's public transportation sucks [nocando].

I have had my license for 7 years had a car for 4...
Now that i walk everywhere over here (and lost 10 lbs in the doing) i wonder if it is worth it...mind you...when it is -30 outside...so you want to walk?????
Posted By: faile Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 09:42 PM
walking is great, but there definitely times when a car would be appreciated! winter is cold.
Posted By: Uglytruth Re: it's a fact - 28/10/03 11:36 PM
There's a really cool program in San Francisco called City Car Share that's sort of a compromise between individual car usage and public transportation.
You pay a monthly fee, and reserve one of the fleet cars online whenever you want. When you're done, you just park in one of their designated spots. You don't even pay for gas.

It's a good idea for us because unlike the rest of the planet, we're in deep denial about environmental damage (actually, we know there's a problem, but greed gets in the way of doing anything about it) and addicted to our personal mobility.

Does that kind of thing exist elsewhere? Europe's transportation system is so much better than ours that it's probably redundant there, but I'm just curious.
Posted By: janggut Re: it's a fact - 29/10/03 04:26 AM
faile, i think u should get a hovercraft. all terrain for the environmental pirate.

what about a motorcycle? not the big bad harley but something smaller & more agile like what we have in malaysia; 90-110cc engines which is just nice.

or maybe we should just start activating those teleporter stones ....
Posted By: Flash Re: it's a fact - 29/10/03 08:46 AM
Truth (or may I call you Ugly? ): There are car sharing agencies around here, too. But it isn't used that much. Germany is (unfortunately) the nation of automobiles, and especially Stuttgart, with Mercedes and Porsche being here. So way too many people use their own cars, and the other ones use the public transportation system.
I've been owning a drivers license for over four years, but I never needed a car. Riding my bike 4km to University and 4km back keeps me healthy. I always get angry at those who use their car for short distances.
Posted By: LUCRETIA Re: it's a fact - 29/10/03 09:12 AM
I want to thank you all people. I got my licence 2 years ago, bought a car and never drove it. I still use my feet or taxi or public transportation which is really awful here in Greece. But I still can´t drive that car. I am glad I am not the only one. Only in winter I feel that I should get in the car, and drive all the way to work. Oh sure, people call me ugly all the time and they don't even know my nick.

A couple years ago I was in Munich "for work" and the train system was amazing. It didn't seem necessary to have a car there, which was cool.

I remember all the Mercedes, and it was strange because those things seen as elite cars here, thanks to all that evil marketing voodoo we're bombarded with every day. But even the police cars were Mercedes there. They're as common as Fords here.

Too bad the beer sucked. Germans really need to figure out how to make good beer. And chocolate, too. Yuck.

Do I really need to add a smiley to that?

"i remember school being cancelled because of the -60 windchill. thats -15 to you metric people."

I thought it was funny moving to a place that canceled school at -40ºC, from a place where the bus might be an hour late then, if the driver forgot to plug in the second block heater (keeps the engine warm enough to start, for those who live places that don't get below -15ºC or so). During that hour, our lunchboxes would be stuck in the snow bank while we had a snowball fight.

Hello to you too
Kos is such a beautiful island but unfortunatelly I have never been there. As I said before it is cheap for people from other countries to travel to Greece but for Greeks it is very expensive.

I have been to IOS (great island with over 150 bars. Everyone is drunk there )

I haeve been to Agina (it is preety close to Athens and has very friendly people)

Crete is my fatherland. And I love every inch of it...

I also went to NAXOS (There except the wonderful beaches you will taste the most good cheese and you can see the most great .... doors Yes you read correctly old doors to every house which are made by hand and they are considered now as art. You can also se the Great door. It is the place that Theseus returning to Athens damped Ariadne. Men... and Greek ancient mythology)

These are my only travels

Hope I will eventually manage to go to Scotland and Ireland one day
