If you equip item you should see that item equiped. I mean if you equip brush and a pot it should look like brush and a pot, not as spear and a helm.

This will be just very funny to see. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

PS I understand, maybe this is difficult to implement.

I think the same thing man, it's not good if you have a dragon shield and appear a simple shield in your hand and etc.

Yes, I , too, think that should have been implemented, but someone once said, that the person responsible for the main character's graphics left the team too early (shortly before completing the game, I think).

thats too bad <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />
it would have been cool <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

could you imagine seeing yourself attacking orcs, with a pot and a finely crafted broom? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Draghermosran Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 25/04/03 06:16 PM
good suggestion, it would only take yet another 500mb to store all those different possibilities
Posted By: Viper Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 26/04/03 08:32 AM
I was thinking the same thing, a 4th CD would be necessary then
Posted By: jvb Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 26/04/03 01:14 PM
i know, but it would be cool <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Crosof Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 26/04/03 05:55 PM
that would be awsome

hmm exactly, but, again, this is not my idea to bring brooms and stuff in the game and this is also not my fantasies to be able to equip them, right? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I just wondered that it will be nice to see all this beauty on character <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

agreed

If you make the characters 3D, it would take less room overall. All you'd need is a character model and textures, not a whole animation library for each item and character.
Posted By: Viper Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 28/04/03 06:41 AM
indeed, that's why I'm all for 3D, if the textures are detailed enough you'v still got a good looking game
Posted By: Rose Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 11/06/03 05:29 AM
Agreed. There needs to be more consistency with the in-game graphics vs. what is equipped on the character.

I can't understand why a sword (like the Nobleman's sword) looks really cool on the ground (so obviously it has an in-game graphic associated with it), yet when you equip it, it looks like a lame regular sword. It might have taken too much resources to make it work the other way, so I guess it's understandable. But I definitely hope this will be different in DD2.

The reason is simple: There were different people responible for different graphics ion the game.

While one was responsible for the sword lying on the ground, another one was responsible for the graphics "around" the main char.

Or look at the plates. When You're carrying golden or silver You should see your character shining, letting know thayt You're wereing this plate. And when You have completed aromour of the dragon maybe You should be able to polimorph in it to scare Your opponents.

or have dragon ally even <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

or WOW ability to ride personal dragon!
Did I say fly ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That sucks! I want consistency, consistency dammit!

Maybe it would be too much work to put it in DD2 if it uses the same engine, but maybe not?

To me, it's simply teamwork.

And thus reducing costs.
Posted By: Rose Re: Small suggestion on graphics - 11/06/03 08:56 PM
How much would it really cost to stick an already-existing sword graphic onto the body, though? Or say, the graphic for how an armor looks on the ground to the body as well? Granted, there are more nuiances to body animations, but I think if it could be done, it should be.

Perhaps they should have 2people handling the main character's graphics. Though it could increase expenses but maybe there is a way around that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

If there is a will there is a way, or vise versa........ <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shhh.gif" alt="" />

Hmm, well if that's the case... it's okay for DD, but please let the main character's graphics be upgraded in DD2! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Though I'm not an artist, I'd say that it would cost alot more. Go use an item and look at all of the individual frames of animation that are involved in using that item, (just look at how your character changes with and without the item). Realize that the game doesn't use a 3d engine, so to my knowledge, every item that you see would have to have every necessary frame of animation drawn for it, you can't just stick it on. You can certainly take a template and add one piece of art over the other I think, (so you wouldn't need to redraw all of the armor, etc.), but my guess is still that it'd be alot more work.

You're absolutely right. Thankfully RiftRunner does have 3D characters so they'll just need a new frame and texture for each weapon. Theoretically, it would take little effort to create your own weapon visuals with an editor!
