...level editor for making single player missions/campaigns. With that the 100 h game time could be extended a lot and it would make the game more interestig too, players could send eachother the levels that they have done etc. Who agrees?

Sounds like good wishful thinkin', and perhaps Larian will do something like that in their next game, but I have no idea if DD is configured to be easily modded. Then again, do you really want to sit around and plant trees, barrels, houses, tables, chairs, plates, food, candles, crates, chests, bookshelves, pictures, etc. etc. for every location in the game you want to create? umm... yeah, but other games like NWN have lever editors, and using them i have never gotten bored. Perhaps you could make presets, for example forest1: it contains lotsa trees and you just place it somewhere. same with the houses, make one, copy it, extend and decorate the copies a little etc. and voilla. And you wouldn't have to make such large maps as rivertown or dark forest...
BTW what game are they working on right now?
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 20/03/03 03:49 PM
I only we knew. we are all waiting for an announcement.

but DD isn't easily modded, there are no real tools available. it's a small team and in the end they even used excel to create parts of the game so....
Posted By: Conflux Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/03/03 11:21 AM
As far as I know, the Larian-intern editor should be released after the game, but they decided against a release because the tool was to complex for "easy" level building.

But perhaps Arhu or Bronthion can make a statement about the editor because they worked a lot with it.
Posted By: Achim_S Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/03/03 02:49 PM
Hmpf. I cannot believe that somebody builds such a game without using proper tools for that.
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/03/03 06:25 PM
well, tools cost time and time is money because you gotta pay them programmers. that's one and 2: ever heard of deadlines? and 3 the Larian team is small.
Well, the Larians had their own Tool.
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/03/03 07:12 PM
being?
What Conflux described above.

If you want, you can send Arhu or Bronthion a messege, for example, asking them ...
the reason why that tool prolly didn't get released i guess is because it's very basic, meaning you'll have to do lot's of scripting. For that you'll need to learn the language used to steer the engine.

Other bigger games who have those tools can afford to make them generate those scripts itself

at least that is what I suspect.
Posted By: Conflux Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 26/03/03 01:24 PM
Well I donīt think that other tools from other game do some kind of auto-scripting (perhaps only some default stuff like triggering doors or whatever). The Aurora Editor of Neverwinter Nights e.g has its own scripting engine and you also have to learn the language and script by yourself (or copy the scripts from the web). If you want to create interaktivity in a game's mod you need to learn the scripting language of that game. Otherwise you can only build some (boring) levels with some default monsters.

Exactly my point. My big fear is that after a while, people would get so tired of the fine little details and just throw out a huge plot of land. Fighting orcs in their camp was fun; fighting imps in a boring desert with nothing to break up the monotony was not.

If DD had a random level generator like Diablo 2 did, it'd be a lot more reasonable to want to do some level editing, because you'd just need to specify hallway width, twistiness, tileset, etc., and voila, instant level. But as an editor for D2 has yet to come out, I'm thinking it's just not that simple..

autosave feature.. I forget to save sometimes and I usually end up dead when I realize that I hadn't saved sinced I loaded my last save game.

I really hope that this isn't a game that the developers and the publishers decide to just forget about in spite of a few good reviews and a few people who like the game and wouldn't mind a sequel or even an expansion pack.

I hate it when that happens.

Exactly that's the point. You can work much better and faster if you have proper tools. So, the first action should be to make the necessary tools.

all i have to say is that we need respawning monsters....at one point i had killed every single orc on the map and the soldiers in the barracks were still talking about the "war" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 28/03/03 09:57 AM
yup, just like bush, orcs keep on sending troops. good for leveling <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

LOL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> and they can change the well to an oil well and we'd be all set. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

we'd be RICH I tell ya, maybe the NPC's would start fighting over who controls the well as well. ROFL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Phalzyr Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 28/03/03 03:57 PM
ROFL, yes if they do make an expansion pack they just have to add this to final area it is desert after all right? haha (never got their myself yet...waiting for patch)

And then change final vid to be that you found out this war was all about the oil after all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, Same here, but I chose to believe the "war" was taking place in another map that I didn't get to visit ... I have to agree though that it was frustrating putting all this effort to eradicate the Orc threat and not getting the appreciation for single handedly ending the war :P

no autosave, sometimes we make mistakes and if the game autosaves after that.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 31/03/03 08:16 AM
yeah, but the autosave is a complete different savefile, not a quicksave file.

I could use it yesterday, forgot to save when I cleared a nice piece of woods in Aleroth <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

Just at the beggining of game? That'd explain why you want an autosave... Later in game it just takes way too long to save and I myslef wouldn't want to be annoyed by it doing it for me. Though it'd be a nice option though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

no offense but i dont liek the idea at all, theres something magic about playing it just how it is <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> lol corny huh? but true...
Posted By: HandEFood Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 16/04/03 11:32 PM
They need a the "Harcore" setting from Diablo II. Saving also quits the game and dying removes your saved game. This means no tap-backs. You must play as though your character's life is your own. Perhaps increased experience could balance out the risk?
Posted By: Rainmaster Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 23/04/03 07:54 PM
Lol, you would back up a folder with your saved games just in case you die <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: HandEFood Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 23/04/03 10:24 PM
I know people will, but why? Just play the normal mode if you want to play like that.

Exactly what I thought when you said the game needed a hardcore mode. Just stop playing your character if he dies, and delete the appropriate saved game. It's single-player so no need for any hardcore mode, would be a waste of time (I think).
Posted By: HandEFood Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 24/04/03 02:21 AM
True. Most people invariably need the addition incentive, though. If you could gain extra levels this way (5 to 10 additional levels), I'm sure more people would try it (and hence more cheating). I really need to stop thinking and just accept things...

Ooh! Chocolate...

Like the heart of fury mode in IWD you gain more xp and get better weapons earlier
Posted By: Kaan Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/04/03 08:12 AM
"Heart of Fury" was way too hard than normal! But exp and items were great and playing was fun. However, DD is not an easy game in this form already and I can't imagine a mode such as "Heart of Fury" for DD.
Posted By: taffy Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/04/03 12:48 PM
Heart of fury was bitchin i managed to get about half way before giving it up as a bad job I completed it on difficult apart from the final battle which was a nightmare on any level
Posted By: taffy Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 25/04/03 12:52 PM
Playing DD on normal's hard enough keep getting my arse kicked but keep coming back for more. This is my first time around and finding it very addictive.

Yeah, a editor, like AGE OF EMPIRES would rule, awesome idea!
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 31/05/03 06:42 PM
yes, but that is just not gonna happen anymore. hopefully their next project will have some cool editors
Yep, an editor is what they need. You make up your own orc camp, with just huge orcs and elite ones. Then you instead of poisoning a well, you blow up the oil pumps! Lol, just lots of orcs are there, and when they die, you get a TON of money <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Too bad about not having it in a new patch. You make your own stuff up. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
Posted By: Dark_Paladin Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 01/06/03 10:48 AM
imagine for a second with me a small village in multiplay, with 16 little houses each belonging to a single hero, the heroes could team up or fight if they liked to and the contents of the house along with the character could be exported and re-used time and time again, just with different friends and different worlds. Thanks to an editor the worlds could be altered and recreated at random and the next time would never be the same as the last.
And ofcourse a save function so that you could continue in a world untill you finished it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleepey.gif" alt="" /> I dreamed it up, I hope to see it some day to.
Posted By: Viper Re: What this game REALLY needs is a... - 01/06/03 06:59 PM
NOT a BAD idea, that would make it even possible to implement MP in the current DD
That is a good idea <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />, but you shoud be able to have your own castles also. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I don't know about that...with Heroes of Might & Magic 2 & 3 I spent a lot of time (and had as much fun) building new maps and campaigns. I built like 7 worlds for HOMM 2 and I think 4 or 5 plus a campaign for HOMM 3. Built a couple worlds for Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, and one for Age of Wonders too.

Believe it or not, I like sitting around and planting trees, barrels, houses, tables, lesbian half-elves, chairs, plates, food, naked lesbian half-elves, candles, crates, bookshelves, etc. etc.
naked, lesbian, half elven, hmm.

An editor would be fine if it didn't detract from the official campaign like *cough* Neverwinter Nights *cough cough hack cough*.
