Is Beyond Divine Divinity worth buying? What are some of the new skills and features??

Welcome, Ganondorf!

Beyond Divinity is just as addictive as the first. The skill system is revamped. It's a bit of a mixed bag. I like some features from both. The level design (for lack of a better word) and plot is better in Beyond Divinity. You now have a fully controlable party, including summonings. They're a little tricky to get used to, but they work. You can automate party members as well if you prefer to play as one. Game balance has been improved. Combat is not always the answer (unless you play the game on an easy setting). There is an optional random-combat area in each act to boost your levels.

I'm only a little way into the game, but I already think it's a worthy expansion on the Divine Divinity series. Just download the patch before playing...

Personally I preferred "Divine Divinity" over "Beyond Divinity," but BD is still one of the better games I've played in a while. If you really want opinions you should browse through the other topics on the board... *everyone's* got something to say!

Personally, I loved DD but hated BD. If I were you I would keep my 40 bucks...I wish I did.

Edit: The ending is real good tho.

If you enjoy RPG's then you should definately enjoy Beyond Divinity.

There are a few people who really go out of their way to trash the game, but you might want to ignore those posts. Look around on the forum for posts by people who actually finished the game and check out their comments.

Also go to the "Announcements" section of this forum and you will find links to reputable reviews by professional game reviewers. The average score from those sources is around 80% (the game was marked lower in some cases because of bugs, which have been corrected within the first few days of release).

I think the skill system is better in DD, and a lot of the sub quests are far more interesting. But BD has a better overall storyline and I prefer having two characters to one - though a full on party would be better still

4-6 characters would really get best use out of the BD skill system, IMO. With only two it's too large to be worthwhile.

DD really suffered from an incredibly boring end section though (The entirety of the Wastelands), which is definitely not the case in BD.

Overall, I enjoyed both games tremendously - but they have somewhat different strengths and weaknesses.

Up till now I love the game. In you have many options in your char creation. The skills system looks better to me because you have the freedom to create your own skills. It is up to you how many points you will create in a skill and how strong you make it. Personally I think that the game has a very big replay value since when you end up all acts you can still go in the Battlefields (which are randomly genereated) and continue playing. I also find the humor in brilliant. Plus I loved very much the DK and Dolls additions. In this way I do not feel lonely. The unique items are more in and it ia great fun to explore and collect them.

My only misgivings about the skill system is that some basic skills like ranger sights you can only get late in act four when you dont really need it anymore It would also be nice to get whirvelwind earlier since it is a rather fun skill to use)

Divine Divinity still has the best gameplay and story, but to be honest, I haven't seen any other decent RPG around so ... it's worth buying.

PS.: Sauron ? Whirvelwind lol, wervelwind and whirlwind combined zeker

Ganondorf, it all depends on what you like in terms of gaming. If you like diversity, BD's got it. It's a bit hack 'n slash reminiscent of Diablo, it's on a smaller scale than Bethesda's, Morrowind, but the idea is still in there but most appealing is the unique charm the storyline, characters and game play has.

I've played a lot of different types of RPGs and I'm an avid fan of fantasy (literature). A lot of games over the past few years seem to be knock-offs of other popular game ideas. Very few seem to have a charm of their own. And for that reason I enjoy both BD and DD (which are two different games, IMHO). I think Larian has made its own mark within the gaming industry. I felt that way about Planescape: Torment. There isn't a better game or storyline that has that type of appeal.

As for skills and features that also depends on what you like. I like a lot of choice in my games. The more, the merrier! But I don't like soooo many that I get bogged down in decision-making at every single turn (that's how I feel about Neverwinter Nights and its expansion).

What kinds of games do you like?
