I really hope that due to the poor reviews, future games are not created drastically different. Am I the only one who loved Divinity II EXACTLY the way it is. I mean, I LIKE games that start you off weaker than a mice, and let you progress to near infinite power!!

I also loved risen, which a lot of people hated as well. These kinds of games are the only ones I can sit through for more than a few hours.

This game is great.
Yup, I love games like Divinity II, Risen, Gothic, Drakensang, etc.

Such addictive gameplay. And I love the exploring. Leveling, looting, etc. A nice challenge.
Count me too
Though I am not really fan of these action RPGs,I like to play them to relaxe a little.
Fan of Risen and Divinity II here.

If you fancy something a little retro but a lot of fun, (in the right hands of course) have a look at Dungeon Adventure - 360 indie game. rpg001

So Risen is recommended? It seems to have received a lackluster review. Although I selected to play D2 even though I found poor reviews for it (yet gamers gave it much better reviews).

Risen on PC received good marks. I'd still recommend the 360 version if that's your only choice, though. A very good and atmospheric RPG in the vein of Gothic II. And it offers a very rewarding challenge like Divinity II.

I haven't touched a Gothic since the first one. It was pretty slick, I seem to recall a nice openness to it and interesting NPCs.

Only to rub it in your face at the end that all that work was for nothing.
I could do with fewer quest bugs, wizards who don't wear pjs with stars on them, and AA.

Many like to judge game by graphics, ending and etc. To me Risen ending is indeed bit suck, but the game is really addictive with its gameplay. I like idea of blocking and countering, where it really testing one reflexes. Too bad D2 had no blocking features like risen. But overall D2 is still a good game suit to my taste.

I did not play Risen, Gothic or Drakensang yet, but I agree:

I love the exploring, leveling, looting, etc too ! grin
And of course the quests, mindreading and music too!! A very addictive game!

Great game. Hell, I wouldn't even change the ending, although I've seen numerous complaints about it.

Got Risen ordered for the 360 as well, many people who've played D2 recommend it.

"So Risen is recommended? It seems to have received a lackluster review. Although I selected to play D2 even though I found poor reviews for it (yet gamers gave it much better reviews). "

Check out the RPGWatch review for some more details about why it is a pretty good game despite some flaws.

"I haven't touched a Gothic since the first one. It was pretty slick, I seem to recall a nice openness to it and interesting NPCs. "

Gothic 2 - especially with the Night of the Raven expansion - is one of the best RPGs of the past decade.

I also enjoy Drakensang quite a bit, and this Divinity 2 is a nice follow up that is solid but not (IMO) up to the level of the original.

One thing - these guys (Risen, Divinity 2) either need to figure out how to do console games or just STOP ... because what they *are* releasing is giving the overall games bad names and really poisoning the well.

Basically I dont bother much on reviews. Humans are basically bias and you cant expect the reviewers to like every genre/ type of game. I usually just get the demo and try the game out. If I find the game attractive, well then I get it. And there nothing perfect nor a perfect game. Even if its having a bad ending, as long as I enjoy the game from start till end, that more than enough. After all its just a game.

That's how I am. If I find a game interesting or a demo fun and interesting, then I'll get it, even if it's not the greatest, because it has something that interests me from either a gameplay or narrative perspective, or both.

It seems that European RPGs have a somewhat different flavor. I personally like them - the exception to that rule would be Gothic 1. The game interface was just too awkward and it rendered the game unplayable. Unfortunately, European games also seem to have more than their fair share of bugs. Perhaps the companies involved can not afford as extensive a QA effort as some of the software giants. My friends give me a hard time for putting up with these games but I think they are well worth it.

It seems even companies that can afford extensive QA, spend more time on hiring celebrity voice actors & hyping the game than actual QA... look at Dragon Age & its cheesy trailers, and now the whole fuzz about Mass Effect 2.
Thanks for the recommendation of Risen. I'll judge it myself....downloading demo now.

To bad all that great gameplay/entertainment you consider "work" and not "fun" as most gamers buy and play games for. :-(

I enjoyred the game and thought the ending was fine and even if the ending ended up with "Mario" jumping off a mushroom I would still have had fun playing the game.
Great game, like the ending now that it is not actually the ending.
I haven't finished this game yet, but it's right up my alley. Like others have said, Risen and Drakensang are great games, as well. Risen was actually my favorite rpg of 2009 (USA).

I just finished this game today. It's definitely a great game. All the people at Larian have done a great job. I really enjoy the European rpgs...The Witcher and the games I mentioned above. This game is right up there. I think Ego Draconis is one of the more innovative rpgs made in recent years. I actually had more fun playing this game than Dragon Age. I love the fact that you can turn into a dragon. That was very cool. I also appreciated the humor added to the dialogue in the game.

Another thing: I've read a lot of comments from people saying how they didn't like the ending. I actually loved the ending. It obviously begs for a sequel, or at least some expansion packs. More importantly, however, I appreciated the fact that it didn't end with rainbows, lollipops and unicorns. It was a great, dark twist.

Thanks for making an awesome game. I look forward to more.
There are many small fixes that could be made, such as creature pathfinding, running animation, combat difficulty... but they are mostly quality of life.

ED is not perfect, but it is very, very good.
You like Risen??????????
strange
I think game is pure shit
Played for 3 days and delete

Drakensang is good game with one major flaw.....characters.......

Like Raven .. I don't like Risen too ... don't know exactly why, but it can't keep my attention ... while Ego Draconis is a little too addictive :hihi:
biggrin
Risen was wretched. I didn't think you could make controls any worse than Gothic, but that game managed to take control badness to the whole new level.

That, and getting spontaneously owned by giant moths kind of turned me off to the whole thing.

And the looks. Male Dragon Knight is positively handsome compared to Risen's protagonist.
Posted By: virumor Re: I wouldn't want this game ANY OTHER way! - 02/06/10 06:23 PM
Risen was OK as a mage... but I hated the melee combat. Also after two great chapters, the game quickly deteriorated.

Two Worlds, for all its faults, had much better melee combat.
Lol, Risen had the best combat system since Gothic 2.
And fortunetly was made for the PC not consoles.

That must be, because on Xbox ... o no, bad combat system ... frown

Larian have doing a great job to make Ego Draconis good on both systems: PC and Xbox!

Why the f**k came Risen out on Xbox when it is made only for PC???? Only for commerce?? suspicion down

Err, i meant that Risen was primarily a PC port game, which was then ported to XBox and failed miserably. But you could say they tried to rip off a bit of cash that way, yea.
Risen was terrible
Truth is truth

For game that only offer exploration map was pathetic
Magic was pathetic

and only one city
I don"t count marsh

Monastery was too "same"
nothin new

Dull quests

Gothic 3 was much better game
Big map
Lots of cities
Desert,snow area

Best combat
tons of magic

Everything

Yeah ... Risen ... ppfffff ....

I take an eye now on the upcoming Gothic 4 !

It seems to be a great game ...

But first I go for Flames of Vengeance!!
Keep living in delusions guys, just sayin`.
Tell me one good thing that Risen have
Noticable choices and consequences
Nothing big that change game
Usually every RPG have it even Gothic 3

Even if consequences are important they belong to story which is crap
I love Risen. A truly great RPG. Not as great as Divinity II, however. Although, I did enjoy the combat more.

This. However risen fails in quest, ending, magic combat, humor and voice area. And excels in melee combat, especially staff, graphics, character professions and atmosphere. Both games are German made tho.

Ego Draconis is a wonderful game.

i have had the most fun playing this game in about four years (except for fallout three and mass effect 1), though never played risen myself either, have to dnld the demo too.
The only complaint i had was that the manual did not tell me what the leveling of each skill would do, so i had to guess, but i finished the game as a fighter and archer type, now playing as a full magic user and find he is kicking donkey.
thanks guys, done a good job and looking forward to kicking that Damian's ahh.. donkey.
Posted By: Raze Re: I wouldn't want this game ANY OTHER way! - 24/06/10 07:23 AM

At least in the Xbox version, the skill description would tell you the effect of the current level as well as the next. There is a section in the walkthrough that lists all of the effects for each level, with comments on each of the skills.
Posted By: AdUde Re: I wouldn't want this game ANY OTHER way! - 24/06/10 08:23 AM
so did pc, its a mote point, but if i lvld a skill 5 times would it be the best for my play style or should i choose another? eg: magic missile seems sh#te for the first few lvlvs but comes to its own, maybe bleed 'ranger surprise' are the same, i really do not know because the info is not there.

That would be way too much to put in a manual wink
Also: in game you do see what the next level will bring you.
