Ranger seriously OP - 29/11/10 05:34 PM
I've seen several posts saying that rangers are not as good as mages and warriors. I seriously disagree. I haven't played a full mage or warrior yet but one look at the skills tells me they can't do 33,360-160,000+ damage to a single target in 1 second, every 5 seconds, rangers can.
I use Invisible Death, the bow you can buy in FoV from the weapon merchant though other bows work fine. Enchants are +100 normal damage and +100 magic damage and level 10 life leach. With 100 dex, 90 int, and level 15 ranger strength (+61% damage) this puts my regular attack at 400-671+(220-371) damage per regular shot. Now if you add in level 15 Way of the Ranger (+588% normal damage) this puts my attack at 1,865-3,123+(220-371) damage. With a high crit rate and 75% heightened reflexes I've had crits hit for over 10,000 damage easily.
What really puts this over the edge is Splitting Arrows at level 15 which fires 16 arrows at once, each counting as a regular attack. If you use Splitting Arrows in melee range all 16 arrows hit a single target for 1,865-3,123+(220-371) damage before any crits that may happen. Each hit, and crit, is rolled separately so even if each hit scores the lowest damage possible it's 33,360 damage and if they all did max damage and crit it would be 160,000+ damage. All this on a 5 second cooldown timer. This can 2 shot Ygerna on Hard (~80% of her life from the first shot) and 1 shot Behrlihn.
And of course Splitting arrows also has some nice crowd damaging abilities.
Can a mage or warrior beat that?
P.S. Exploding arrows is a nice secondary ability too, along with Stunning Arrow and Poison Arrow, throw in Summon Demon, Reflect, Mana Efficiency and Regenerate with equipment focused on high defense, max health, and health regen. Around 1,000 health with rapid health regen with 16 life stealing shots every 5 seconds that can heal you for ~500+ health each and you're a god.
