I want to setup a nice custom campaign with my own chosen avatar and name, but every time I start I am slated with some young woman as my representative figure and part of a "zealot" team along with the name of my computer. Is there anyway to change this?

No, I don't think there is any way to change your icon or name in a multiplayer campaign; the faction you can change.
