A quick note to new users: some of you may have noticed that your newly registered account is quite restricted and e.g. can't have an avatar, can't use BBcode, external links, images and endures rather onerous flood control.

These restrictions are manually removed by one of the moderators once we see a registration is legit, but owing to the large number of newcomers a few people may have slipped through the net. If you're one of them, please reply here and we'll look into it.

While I'm at it, if you could post new topics asking for help & tips here (please try not to be too spoilery with the titles) and anything that looks like a bug or glitch here that would be lovely.

I just want me kickstarter backer badge.
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 19/09/17 12:56 PM
I'm afraid that's one thing I can't arrange: that requires a database update which is run manually on an irregular basis by one of the devs. Sorry about that. frown

It may be worth leaving a note in the Kickstarter badge topic in case it needs to be looked at.
Posted By: Raze Re: A quick note to new forum members - 19/09/17 01:41 PM

I will also try to check the forum more frequently, and search for new users with multiple posts (it's still a manual process, though, checking the posts are non-spam).

Yeah, it's a bit long, but we found out the hard way that even the 15 minutes a day Raze needs to sleep was enough for us to get pages of spam. D: Now we just have to be quick enough to un-restrict legit users before it gets too tedious...

Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 10/10/17 10:47 AM
Yes, it is. Very few forums allow raw HTML: I guess the potential for causing "formatting issues" and all manner of other chaos is just too great... it is sometimes inconvenient not having it, but on balance, its absence is probably the lesser evil.

And I apologise that I had to use Google Translate to realise that you're also a cheese aficionado (my favourite French cheese being the notoriously fragrant Époisses) as my French is not awesome and I'm not entirely sure why my sig ended up the way it is. I can somehow speak enough to not come out of a boulangerie with some completely random non-bread-related item but I usually have to rely on my handy translator (i.e. my gf).

Mr.J;
Done.

Drwargame;
There are no restrictions on your account (new accounts can not have avatar pictures, for example). With the image tag, the URL must be directly to a .jpg or .png file (maybe .gif), and on a host that allows hotlinking. Something like imgur.com/xyz will not work, but i.imgur.com/xyz.jpg should.

Hi uhmmm, I thought I did not earn the right yet but Raze mentioned on page 2 that the minimum amount of posts is 2, 2 days ago so: if you will please?
Posted By: Raze Re: A quick note to new forum members - 28/08/18 09:34 PM

Done. I periodically search for new user accounts with multiple posts (but if the forum gets slow and/or I am busy I can get out of the habit), but any legitimate post is enough to get moved to the user group, if I or another mod see it and notice the post count.
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 29/08/18 01:07 PM
And I apologise for also being rather out of the habit of keeping an eye out! :o
Well, when I wrote "2 days ago" I realized soon after posting that it was 11 months and 2 days ago :P, which makes more sense, the DOS2 fever has now subsided quite a bit, so I'm glad you reacted so quickly. So thanks.

Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 29/11/18 07:20 AM
As a further note to new forum members, when moving people into the regular members' group I've taken to assigning them a default avatar to make it easier to spot who's already been "dealt with". Please do feel free to change it to something else of your choosing!

For the record, it's actually the old Divinity 2 emblem (not Divinity Original Sin 2) because it's fairly neutral and in keeping with the default forum skin. There are a bunch of D:OS2 avatars lurking but I don't yet have permission to make them live so you'll either need to use an older stock avatar or find your own. :p

Hello. Just picked up the game on steam. I am a long time modder of NWN 1 & 2, I have been looking to get back into modding, and I think I may have finally found the proper tool. My thanks to the developers, and supporters, who made this product possible. Hopefully, with a little time and patience, I can return the favor by producing some enjoyable mods to share with the community.

hay doss same wane has a map of all rivelon
Posted By: Raze Re: A quick note to new forum members - 18/08/19 02:01 AM

No, the map only includes areas where the game takes place.
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 18/08/19 03:40 PM
A few of us did try to figure out what seemed to be a logically feasible map of the Original Sin to Ego Draconis era (even though the landscape underwent some indeterminate but reasonably significant upheaval in the meantime), such as Renwex's cartography linked to in this post but it's absolutely by no means authoritative. Works for me, but is no sort of officially-sanctioned map except inasmuch as a few things were shown in the in-game maps or dialogue, e.g. Driftwood being (due?) south of Aleroth. Even the in-game maps aren't 100% reliable with the compass points not being consistent in DOS2, for instance. But this is still my headcanon map of the area of Rivellon where much of the Divinity series takes place.
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 18/08/19 04:00 PM
Annotated version of the above, from memory; from my memory, so probably inaccurate.

THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL! Just so everyone is absolutely in no doubt whatsoever. It's what we've guessed based on evidence available with some added guessing, more guessing and beer and curry.

Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 19/08/19 04:40 PM
Carelessly added Arx and the oilfields to the map and only now realise I've made both much too small. I'll change them when I'm feeling brave enough to further mangle Renwex's carefully considered topology.

Yes. biggrin I've pinged Renwex who's hopefully still interested and reading his emails as he did the actual mapping, all I can do myself is mangle it with carelessly applied additions.
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 21/08/19 08:55 AM
Talking of smegging it up, I realise I have done, rather badly: having gone from memory rather than actually being thorough about it, I've incorrectly marked Hunter's Edge as Driftwood and actually missed off most of the DOS2 map as I'd completely forgotten what point we'd tried to figure stuff out. Which was between the beta and the full release IIRC.

So please disregard the map. I shall perhaps make a lame attempt to integrate Reaper's Coast into it somehow though I lack Renwex's skill or vision to do so. I'm stil going to guess it's on the same landmass but it may or may not be: all I know offhand is that Arx is on about the same longitude as Aleroth, so it's theoretically in the right place... but may not be.

Argh.

More discussion on how badly I messed up and stuff here, where it belongs.
Posted By: Levianne Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 10:04 AM
Just reading the first page here, realising it doesn't happen automatically (silly me for thinking it does), and I don't like to sound ungrateful, or rather not sound grateful, yea that's better, so whoever removed my collar, thanks disembodied voice, I guess. Does it mean, I could set up my own avatar from that very moment .. or well from just now on, because silly me didn't know? I might as well stick to the default one, but I guess asking doesn't empty my coin purse, does it?
Posted By: Raze Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 12:34 PM

If it was done automatically, spammers would just post repeatedly, which would defeat the point of restrictions on new users.

You could have changed your avatar as soon as you no longer had to use a captcha to post. Usually it only takes one or two posts before the restrictions are removed (unless there are just 'me too' style posts), but sometimes longer, depending on the schedule of mods and how frequently you post.
Posted By: Levianne Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 01:03 PM
Guess I'm just used to another forums, where it is indeed automatic. I'm not saying that this method is wrong, quite the opposite. It just took me damn too long to find out, that it isn't that way here. As for the avatar, the above can be applied as well, it simply took me long to figure out, that I can change it. But not a big deal, I'm quite used to the default one for some time now, so I may be sticking to it anyway. I just wanted to say "thankee thankee thankee" and better not mention that hatch over there. XD
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 03:12 PM
I have no idea which of us activated your account! But yeah, it's manual as some of the, erm, "creatively irrelevant" contributors we've had in the past have shown remarkable determination.

The default avatar is the ED logo (well, you no doubt know that already!) which materialises thanks to a particularly horrible fragment of SQL (horrible because I wrote it, and additionally horrible because it's SQL) that gets run periodically so that I can keep track of who's already been "dealt with".
Posted By: Levianne Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 05:19 PM
That ma-a-a-ah be so-o (I love the sheep's response on the Merryweather btw) with the avatar, but I'll see myself sticking to it, because I happen not to be creative enough (or just plain lazy) to find one fitting for myself and yes, the spinning logo from ED is easily recognizable (although it doesn't spin here, but that's not an issue) and I like it anyway. I might put some points into Persuation, Strength and Wits and persuade the other members to change their avatar, so mine would look unique. XD
Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 06:56 PM
You could always creatively modify it! I still tend to think of other people's avatars as just being them. Well mine is me... and even I think it's glaring at me, but y'know. People's avatars should be individual and I get confused when they're not. Obviously "I get confused" doesn't imply that I'm ever not.
Posted By: Levianne Re: A quick note to new forum members - 30/11/19 08:43 PM
I'm not skilled enough to modify it (also wouldn't dare to touch this masterpiece, plus creativity in this case is strange to me anyway, I can be creative with words sometimes, well most the time, probably, but not with pictures), so I'll rather have to blend with the rest, I suppose. Perhaps some day, when feeling the need to fight my laziness, I might find something, that will create let's say enough diversity. For now I feel lazy enough to stick to this fine peace of art (that has every other new member here).

I would appreciate an HTML restriction lift. I have fully formatted a large number of bugs I've picked up and listed on reddit and would like to submit here with all the beautiful formatting that I have on reddit. Posted By: vometia Re: A quick note to new forum members - 26/10/20 05:46 AM
I'm afraid HTML isn't going to happen: there's too much potential for security holes, formatting problems and so on. I know the BBcode is rather restricted in comparison but that's all that is available, I'm afraid. Sorry.

I can't see any immediate difference on your account as far as my access goes.
