I know this is a question that almost everyone asks before starting his first game game, but the game gives so few informations at the beginning, please help me :-)

I like playing with few characters so I'll go for a Lone Wolf build. Also, I like characters that strike from afar, so I'd for something like archer, any kind of mage or maybe summoner. Last thing: I prefere to be a bit weaker at the beginning if this means I will be stronger in the end.

About summoners, I read many discussions about them and while some say they are very powerful, other say they're maybe powerful at the beginning, but in endgame summons are weak so they're weaker than other characters. Some of them refer to a patch that heavily nerfed summons.

If so, I'd discard summoner for something like archer or mage. I like the Air/Water elements, is enchanter good? Or maybe an archer would be better?

My only doubt is that without a Str based character I'll have very few inventory space, but maybe I could solve the problem with a mod (I know it's cheating, but inventory management is a thing I really dislike in games :-)

Last question: for the 2nd member of the party, how will I be able to chose him? Will I be able to create him as I want or will I have to select one among those created by the game? Which one would be the best one in this case?

Thanks in advance for any hint you'll give me :-)
In order to easily beat this game, just put Warfare in every character and that's it.
Isn't Warfare kust about physical damage? Wouldn't it be useless on a mage?
You can always respec after Fort Joy and it is possible to specialise casters in two or even three magic disciplines.

I like the fights to be challenging and I like to have variety in my party. My party consists of

Ifan, who is a ranger/archer with finesse and huntsman maxed out.
The Beast who is a str and warfare tank using mace and shield, so single handed maxed out
Sebille who is dual wielding with daggers so scoundrel, finesse and dual maxed out
Lohse who uses a staff (though dual wielded wands would be better). She has Hydo, Aero and Necro and can heal, CC and DPS. Very versatile.

I love all of these characters and they all have very powerful moves.
going full physical team is probably the strongest setup at current state. They don't need to be warriors, but warfare sadly helps every phyisical class.

for the second char you can talk to the other origins and recruit them or later recruit mercenaries or so.
Choose an origin character in order to fully experience the story, I'd suggest Lohse.
Ok, so I could go with some kind of archer build... or by physical you mean melee? There is a topic in this section that says that tank melee are pointles... I'm a bit confused ^_^`
Don't try to tank. Throw away your shield, grab a warhammer and smash bone. Both melees and ranged builds will do an excellent job if they're focusing on physical damage. (Without min-maxing your lone wolf archer will eventually one-shot boss foes. Archers are strong, lone wolf makes everything super overpowered at some point.) Whether ranged or point-blank, magic characters won't lead to such good results.

Warfare works on physical damage from many sources: Ranged and melee physical weapons, magic. It does, afaik, not work on physical damage from teleport, telekinesis and summonings, though. But that's not physical damage you deal "directly". wink
Ok thanks, I'll go for archer then, and look for another physical dps as companion. Which one of the origin characters cpuld I pick for archer? I'd prefere one with good alignement (an "hero", not a "villain"). Once,at home I will look the suggested lahe (i don't remember which one is she hehe

Thanks again, also if you have any link to a good archer build will be great hehe
Being a tank is rather useless since there isn't really any way (reliable way, anyway) to "make" enemies focus your tank. Well, unless your team has. no. one. else. BUT. tanks.

And since the threat of being perma-cc'd is always very real, opting for a dps-oriented build is pretty much always the wiser choice. Especially so when you're playing lone wolf, since most of the time you will be outnumbered. Being able to take down as many enemies in as short a time as possible is THE way to do it.

As a side note, Warfare works with *any* skill that directly deals physical damage upon impact, whether it is weapon-based or magical in nature. The "pure" necromancer build is a physical-damage caster that relies heavily on Warfare among some other stuff. Really strong too, from what I have seen (even without all them bugs).

That being said, as someone who has played on Tactician, I would suggest you play on Tactician as well, if you're planning on doing an archer build. From what others have said, I gather that a lone wolf archer is so absurdly strong the game soon becomes boring as hell to play (based on what others have described, anyway). Well, afaIk, lonewolf-anything is absurdly strong, but apparently archer more so than others - IF, you know what you're doing. Unless you're really really not a tactical player. Or, unless you don't mind the game being super easy. Nothing wrong with playing purely for the story.

PS: to be honest, if you're going with only 2 characters, having one as a magic dps would probably let you experience the game's combat more fully.
Ifan and Beast are probably the only ones you could call hero like? In general probably every origin is more in the gray area, some are more darker than others I guess.

As elf Sebille would be probably be best for archer, but she is on a cruel avenge trip. Lohse is possessed by a demon, though crit and ini are probably not that bad either for archer.
So mages too can go physical? Interesting...

I'd like to have a character that is fun to play too, no need to be overpowered if the ge is not that hard as you say. I read many topics saying it was very hard so I was planning to play it on Explorer, but if you say that even on tactical game with archer becomes boring... I don't know. Maybe I could stick on explorer and go for a less powerful char but with more variety.

Going back to archers what about this one: https://fextralife.com/divinity-original-sin-2-builds-magick-archer/ ? It's a fully warfare build but with the possibility of using elements if I'm not wrong.

Thanks for the help on origin characters, yes, they seemed very "gray" to me too, which is good, just I want te possobility to act good in the game... i mean... i like to be the one that helps and saves npcs rather to simply exterminate them hehe
P.S.: I like easy games, just not games that let you feel you're using cheats hehe

I loved kingdoms of amalur for instance but the fact that even on.the maximum difficulty level it was almost impossible to die was a bit too much hehe
Ok, I started my game with a Lone Wolf Sebille Huntsman/Polymorph with Ricochet, First Aid and Chamaleon Cloak, +4(+8) Finesse. I will rise warfare a bith furthere when I get atccess to useful skills. Thanks everyone for the help. If you have suggestion on how to grow her further, manly which skills to get, they're all well accepted hehe
Flight, Tactical Retreat and Snipe will be probably the most important skills for the start, just to get in hightened position easier and to have a hard first attack.
Well, maybe it is useless in explorer mode. But in tactician it is useful to have a party member who can soak up damage, res damage dealers, cc with battle stomp etc and damage with bouncing shield etc. I found him too squishy with two handed.
Kalrakh thanks for the hint, which trees belongs those skills?

Jtrav in this game you can't change difficulty while playing right? Cause I was planning to start low and then rise it during the game if needed but I'm not sure it is possible..
You gain Flight after using Spread Your Wings, which is a Polymorph skill. Tactical Retreat and Snipe are Huntsman.

You can change between Classic and Explorer anytime in Options\Gameplay. You can't change on Tactician or Honour.
Ok thanks again to everyone hehe
other good huntsman skills:
Ballistic shot - hits like a truck at long range.
Marksmans fang - ignores physical armor, and hits multiple targets in a line
Assassination - the rangers version of backstab, fun talent if your a sneaky type.
Arrow Spray - powerful ability (costly too). particularly potent at close range against mobs with a large hitbox. It's a room clearer.

Other alternative skill lines:
Summoning - does not rely on Int for damage, so perfect for a ranger type. fits the RP mold too (ranger with pet buddy, etc.)
Hydro - heal spells and magic armor buffs are golden.
Aero - 2 points for the teleport skill. don't need much more.
Pyro - haste spell can be particularly effective.
Geo - like Hydro but for physical armor.
