I can handle that fan service is good at some point and that some poeple like it
That’s not a fan service, that’s UI feedback communicating game mechanics. Still, it is heavy handed, though fully appropriate considering the mechanics. If possible having an option to disable or minimise it wouldn’t hurt.
If you have to clic, wait, read the results and clic again it's not only about UI communicating game mechanics.
Should they add this to combats then ?
I absolutely don't find it appropriate because I'm looking for a video game experience, not a tabletop experience...
No one asked this kind of things in any previous games where there are rolls because it's not a good way to teach rules (after 20 rolls, everyone is going to click, click, click to fast the process).
That doesn't mean the idea can't pleased many players, I'm open minded but I guess it's definitely fan service.
The only reason I can see for presenting the die roll this way is if you can choose to cancel, once you see the target number. Otherwise, for me at least, I'd be happier to just see a pass/fail indicator, and get on with the dialog.
Less intrusive display would also be better, but I get that PnP players may like it the way it is.
I agree it's important to have all informations before you have to choose.
There are plenty solutions to tell the targets number and what you'll roll without such a screen.
